Default How do I get started with two mages?

Hi guys, I'm new to dual boxing. I've decided to reroll on my friend's server, and I'm using RAF to level faster. Right now, I have two gnome mages, both level seven. So far, I've juust had one follow the other until it's OOM, then switch to the other client and do the same thing. It's working well, but one of the characters is sitting around doing nothing. I'd like to have them both being useful, but I don't really know where to start. What should I do so I can start using both characters at the same time (I can make the macro, but I don't know how to have one keyboard click effect both clients.) Thanks guys!

but I've heard Keyclone is one of the best, and most used.

Have a look around the Wiki there, too, besides the forums :|

i started offically yesterday when i ran across the link to this forum on the wow forums. I've always done the two computers dragging one behind doing nothing with the main doing all the work until i found this site. I did purchase keyclone last night and I will say that it does take the dps up a notch as opposed to just doing a drag behind. Yea i know that's a no brainer but my point being is that for 20 dollars I can definately see it's potential in it being worth the money especially if you will do this more than one time. I wished I had found out about it long time ago. I definately need to tweak how i have it set up and work it a bit more. I'm in a bad habit right now of making my toons run around in circles, once i get both of my left hands doing what they are suppose to do lol i'll be fine. As far as looking for something free possibly just remember the ole saying that you get what you pay for. I attempted hotkey this morning and didn't care for the scripting but then again i don't know crap about scripting. On the other hand, at the moment it is free. Another tip to point out is apparently the guys on this site does not like for somebody to post a question if they have already answered it before either in another post or the tutorials so I guess even though it's easier just to make a new post, always make sure you do a search before asking a question perhaps some of the replys won't be as rude as I'm reading them. IMO some of the posters on this site do not believe in "there's no such thing as a stupid question". With all that negative stuff said, there is some great stuff on here to help ya get started. I know i can do much better when i spend more time tweaking things out but 1-12 in a short time isn't bad for somebody that doesn't have all her crap together and keeps going in circles.

Edit for typo cause I can't type or spell!

Purelce, yes some folks don't sound to friendly when yet another newbie ask the same old question. Fact is these questions have been answered so many times, and in so many ways, that is easier to point to a topic that deals to that question then to re-type it. But if I was to provide a link, I would have to first search for it, since I don't keep bookmarks for everything that a new person may ask. Now, if I can use the search, so can anyone else, right ;-)

On the other hand, multiboxing is still a "grassroots" approach ... is not like you can get an application, install and BOOM!!!, everything is setup for you, like macros, classes that you will have fun playing, keyboard mulitplexer, maximizer, CPU afinity, etc, etc. It is a lot of work in the multiboxer part, and I guess for the more technical of us, part of the fun. I guess we expect that one would have done at least some minimal work, like reading a bit, using search and that sort of stuff :-)

I have bookmarked a thread , also from a newbie. I suggest everyone new to the forums reads it, at least the first posting. Quote:
"This really takes approaching the game from a different view point. All the stickies and wiki's are great - but it's a mountain of reading and a lot of trial and error."

And another from someone else in the same thread:
"I've found that with multi boxing there are any number of ways to do something, so trial and error and working the many methods to your game style are viatly important."

And since I have typed all of this, I may as well give the link to something that may help TrooStore:
Multiboxing 101 (5 Mage Tutorial) (should apply for 2 mages as well)

Oh, almost forgot, welcome to the boards!

I decided to buy keyclone, and it works great. However, I'm having problems with my second character lagging behind my main, and facing the wrong direction in fights as a result of /follow. Is there a way to have the extra characters follow right on your character, or no?

no, just a lag issue. either your computer can't handle boxing well (prolly not the case), your internet speed is bad, or your playing wow on an extremely large pop server --> which might lead to computer not being able to handle mulitple wows. Try setting all graphics to absolute lowest on your slave character to help with the lag some.

Also, your alt will alwaysfollow a bit behind your main, so if you want your alt to turn you'll have to either keyboard turn them or move your main around your alt.
