    Default CPU compatible?

Hey!. I am looking to upgrade my CPU because its not doing so hot atm... I mutlibox 4 shamans atm. If you see anything else that should be upgraded please pst me

So what i have now is,
XP professional 32bit (gunna upgrade to 64 bit)
Processor0 Intel(R) Pentium(r) 4 CPU 3.4 GHz (this is what I am asking about.. will my new one work).
    4gb of DRR2 RAM
    GeForce 7900 GS

I am wondering if the DRR2 is compatible with the new CPU that I am about to get.. (Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz 8M L3 Cache 4.8GT/sec QPI Hyper-Threading Turbo Boost LGA1366 Processor)..

    thanks a bunch!

You need to replace both your motherboard and RAM to match the new CPU.

This is correct. The Core i7 9xx processors are a completely different architecture than anything else Intel has. They require DDR3 RAM and a motherboard that supports their chipset. The older P4 chips run off of a "Socket 478" motherboard whereas the Core i7s require a "LGA 1366" motherboard to operate.

    Hope that clears things up.

Should run you around 730 dollars. That's the stuff I got for my system, and it's working quite nicely.
