What type of graphics card is on your machine?

I'm running a laptop with a slower CPU and same RAM and five boxing very well. I'm also running a GeForce 9800M GTS with 1 gig of dedicated memory and Vista 64 bit.

Well, you only have two physical so-dimm slots. If you are going to 8GB (assuming the mobo will recognize.....I don't know), you will have to buy 2x4GB sticks. Just checked, that's around $250 per stick....on the cheap. So $500+ to go from 4GB to 8GB

Looked at Dell xps M1530 at DELL and they can be customized to 8GB of ram for an extra $450. Not a bad deal.

    HOWEVER

    They have two choices:

    Cutomize up to 4GB

    and

    Customize up to 8GB

Which probably means it's two different mobos, one that does up to 4gb and one that goes to 8gb. Strangely, either version is the same price, which one you picked, I don't know. And what model number has which mobo, I don't know. So unless someone else figures it out, get your model number and call DELL, because yes there are versions of this laptop that will support up to 8GB of ram and there are versions that will not, but even if you have the one that can, it's still going to be about $500 to upgrade at this time, unless this laptop runs desktop ram, in which case it's around $100 per stick.

System originally only allowed 4g max ram. Prolly came out before 4gig dimms were available, if you do upgrade, hit the website and update to the latest bios, I checked them all and did not see anything specific for increased memory support, but that's the first thing tech support will have you do.

There are 2 different motherboards for this system, but its not for system ram slots but for the video options offered.
