3-man to 5-man recommendations

Hi all, first post over here after spending over a year as a guest preparing myself for the move into multi-boxing, and here I am.

Okay my situation is this: I have a 3-man team that have recently dinged 10, two of which are hunters and are about to go get their first pets, tenacity obviously, and the main is a Priest, so after a lot of practice and getting used to everything, I'm about to create 2 further accounts next week and add 2 Mages to the setup, but I thought I would run-by the idea here first to see if I can get some advice from more experienced boxers.

Is adding 2 mages a good idea?
If so, what spec for both mages? Fire?
Are there any other classes you would choose instead?
Will 2 tenacity pets hold the aggro for my range dps?

Bearing in mind, this is my first MB team, so Im looking at ease-of-use primarily, but making sure I have all boxes ticked for when it comes to tackling instances (healer, tank, dps).

I kinda figured that adding a couple of mages would fit in just fine with my macro combinations, aswell as providing pwnage DPS.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

aight well from the sounds of it u are trying to do a pve team (if pvp u need to go all one class).. Now if ur pve, ur gunna wanna re-roll these guys.. ur in luck they are only lvl 10. U need a dedicated tank, healer, 3 dps.. (u would be fine with all 4 dps, that can pop some heals up.. this is what I do).. so ur choices are like mixed group .. the best ever is boom druid, ele shaman, pali tank, mage (whatever spec), priest heals.. This optimises all the buffs and is pretty easy to play. But if u want it more simple.. Go with what a lot of us here do, 4 shaman+1 prot pali or 4 druid+1 prot pali, 5 druid (one tank)

I disagree with Ogloo. Pick what is fun! Follow his recommendations if you are planning to run instances at level or do heroics. It's rather difficult to get your pets to stay alive and hold aggro in the tougher instances, so I wouldn't run out the door thinking you have it all covered. They will do fine outside instances.
Fun is important, party makeup should be what would be fun for you. I do HIGHLY recommend having a paladin tank and/or at least one shaman for their ability to tank/dps or heal/dps and wipe recovery.

Yes it is a PVE team Im building, for fun yes but I do want to run high-level dungeons eventually, so I guess I do need a dedicated tank.

I've never rolled a shammy or a druid before, so I think I'll slot a Warrior or Pala into the team as it's new leader and get practising using melee/range characters together - should be fun add a fire mage into the mix too?

That would give me a MT, 2xOT pets, healer and 3 DPS - all with classes that I've played with before too which is a bonus. Priest for rez's and mage for taxi service.

Sound feasable?

Welcome to the world of boxing.

I run with 2x5 teams. One has no duplicates (all classes are different) and the other runs tank + hunter (offtank on autopilot) + 2 shammy DPS + druid heals (l like hots ticking - needs less concentration on heals) - working towards my first 10 man when both teams hit 70.

I don't think I get optimum performance, but I can constantly play with stuff and fine tune things because of the sheer number of options - e.g. currently thinking about moving to shammy heals with boomkin - this keeps it interesting for me.

Mostly - it's a game - have fun - do whatever rocks your boat!

I also want to build a 5 man PVE group with the goal of endgame Heroic Instances.

Currently Have:
80 Priest
80 Warlock
58 Death Knight
40 Warlock
40 Warlock

I have a few problems.

I needed to fill a Tanking roll. I was considering choosing a Pally or a Bear tank. I was favoring the bear tank due to the ability to bring buffs to the group and go cat and DPS if needed. For some reason I ended up with a Tauran DK. I realy have a bad feeling about the DK choice. Was this a mistake? What tanking class has the best synergy with my current group composition?

Also should I drop one of the lowbie warlocks and Add a Shaman? If its recommenced that I go Pally or Druid should I replace the lowbie warlocks with mages for better DPS and similar CC options? Somewhere buried in the wiki is a matrix that shows the capabilities that each class brings to the group. I cant find that now. blah

I may step up to five-boxing someday too, but since my primary goal is to have one of every class @80, I'll end up with quite a mixed team (5 different classes YAY!)

Currently I do prot pally, holy priest, demo lock. They're 67 together and work really well as a team. 99% of my heals are either a renew on the tank or a quick Circle of Healing to heal the group. I have the other heals macroed/keybound but I just don't find myself using/needing them at all. Heck the priest is mostly just sponging off us, she tosses out a renew when necessary, provides Fort buff, and all she does otherwise is throw up a SW:P on my primary target.

Next group to go 60-80 will be DK tank, fire mage, druid healz.

I already have an 80 rogue and 80 hunter on the realm. Then I'm leaving shaman/warrior unplayed to reserve for my goblin characters.

So if I do end up doing some transfers and step up to two 5-box teams, well, it'll be a mixed up deal for sure! Possibly add the hunter+rogue to the current "threesome", then I'll have fun boxing two melee, a healer and two ranged That would leave my next 5-man team to be a DK tank, druid healer, warrior DPS, mage dps, shaman dps Suicidal? Maybe!

Just by saying Multi-box you open up the possibility to a plethora of choices; stick to the “holy trinity” philosophy and you cannot go wrong.
For me, multi-boxing has been more about the right group synergy along with simplification of macro’s then about what is “the” right choice for a given role.

Tank – The Paladin for me is the only choice; simple rotation that is fire and forget. Once engaged I never worry about threat.

Healer – I don’t think there is a “wrong” choice here; macro setup is more complex if you don’t have a group type heal.

DPS – Any class will do – melee/caster mix make movement much more challenging however. I like to keep my healer and (3) ranged dps toons close together using the number keys for movement while the tank uses the WASD.

For me – I choose the non-traditional route going with a 5-man mixed group; currently RaFing a new Warlock to replace my Mage; nothing wrong with the Mage, I just wanted another form of wipe protection that the Warlock brings over the Mage.
Water is cheep and teleportation hubs are everywhere now.

So long as you choose 5-classes you like to play you cant really go wrong; some combinations will be MUCH harder to master then others.

I'm currently running a mixed team of:

Prot Paladin, Demo Warlock, MM Hunter, Frost Mage and Holy Priest.

They work really well as a group, loads of dots, buffs, mage portals and food/water and cat and void/felguard as additional tanks. running instances and world content is a breeze with this group. I also have a mass aoe setup that incorporates Consecrate, Volley, Blizzard and Rain of Fire that is great for killing mobs en mass (all synched via hotkeynet).
for normal single mob killing, i just have one button bound for auto attack on each, so the hunter shoots, the clothies wand and the pets attack (takes a couple of seconds for the mob to die) talk about /facerolling content.
tougher mobs require pushing a couple more buttons, normally synchronized dotting and damage over time spells, then the big damage spells.
it takes a while to get used to 5 separate classes, but after a couple of levels its quite simple really.

Didn't see a subscribe option, but wanted to tag this for follow up because I'm working on a mixed class group.

I currently have a Uld/ToC 10m geared Druid tank I've been solo playing and raiding with for a while. I also have a noob lvl 80 dual spec Holy/Shadow priest, and lvl 80 Arcane Mage that puts out about 2500 dps that I would like to incorporate into a mixed class 5 box group. I just need to decide what to do for the other two spots.

I have a shaman at 70 horde side that was part of my 5x shaman group that I ran in BC a while back, I'm thinking of doing a faction change and server change for one of those and that would leave one other spot, not sure what to do there but looking at the options others have proposed.

For mixed group healing, what's the class that has the best group aoe heals and least trouble to box? I was thinking Holy Priest was going to be good for all the group heals type of spells they have, ie, Circle of Healing and Prayer of Healing, Prayer of Mending, Holy Nova , and Divine Hymn, but got to thinking of all the keybinds I'm going to have with a mixed group anyway, maybe druid or shammy but just not sure here.

My main idea for doing all this is because I'm sick of pugging heroics for badges and just want to run my own groups again. Since I'm doing it and have a few other 80s already, I might as well utilize them and gear them as I go too.

So, what heals and what one more dps is my conundrum at the moment that I am trying to resolve by rummaging around the forums here.
