Default Boomkin & Shadow Priest castsequence question.

    Hello everyone,
I have been leveling my Druid/Priest Combo for a little over 2 weeks and they are coming along well. Initially i went kitty and holy for a solid, non-stop grind.
However, once i got to 40 i was all to tempted by the Boomkin and Shadow forms.
My question is about cast sequence macros, since i have not played either of these classes until a week ago i'm still not exactly sure which rotations would maximize dps.

    Currently i use;
/castsequence reset=target Starfire, Insect Swarm, Moonfire, Wrath, Wrath, Wrath, Wrath

    and

/castsequence reset=target Mind Blast, Shadow Word: Pain, Mind Flay, Mind Flay, Mind Blast, Mind Flay, Mind Flay

They seem to be doing alright, is pairing relative cast times amongst spells a good idea? (ie. mind blast and starfire go off about the time)

    Thanks!

What you have looks fine. You might want to drop the DoTs, unless you are taking long enough to kill your target that they can actually tick. Having similar cast times on your sequences isn't really neccesary.

Those sequences look fine for an instance but I wouldn't use them for questing. As a boomer/sp you will kill mobs quite quickly and so you don't want to waste time/mana on dots (mobs will be long dead) and so I would just use wrath spam on druid and mb/mindflay on priest. With the slowing effect of mf most mobs should be dead before they get to your group.

for quests and leveling, i'd do this:

    druid: entangle roots, wrath spam.
    priest: swp, mind flay spam.

they should be dead by the end of the second mindflay anyway.

mindflay keeps targets slowed so when they do break entangle roots, its easier to reapply before they get within melee range. for casters, just burn them down with wrath spam. priests get a silence, so use it whenever its up.

Have you tried those macros yet? I'm not sure how the SPriest one will work :/ I had some trouble getting Mind Flay to channel properly without some conditions in the macro. I kept cutting off my Mind Flay. Otherwise it looks like what i do with my boomkin.

    to mindflay
    /cast [target=moonkintarget, harm, nochanneling:mind flay] [] Mind Flay
or if the moonkin is the slave, then you dont have to worry about it. but i would still use the nochanneling condition so it wont reset.

remember, your mindflay will break follow. so know to have a /follow key handy if you do run.
oh sorry i keep forgetting people like to use castsequence and not cast with modifiers.

i would also do this with my entangling roots and swp:
/cast [mod:alt] Entangling Roots; [nomod] Entangling Roots
/cast [mod:ctrl] Shadow Word: Pain; [nomod] Shadow Word: Pain

this will give me the option to either cast entangling roots or SWP only or cast entangling roots with SWP (add target id's if necessary)

Thank you for the above suggestions, I've come to a good solution that fits my play style well.

@mind flay interruption, i just have them on different keys and just watch when Mind Flay has finished casting and hit the macro again =P (at first i tried to be lazy and bind both macros to one key and just auto-pilot everything but i found mind flay was interrupting and it was not very effective/situational/adjustable.)

In the end i figured out a good formation to engage with, maximizing the distance the mob runs while flayed and using the castsequence macro to it's fullest. almost improved my Priests dps by double from last night.

I recommend adding some of the channeling features into your macro and keeping MF on it, but having a separate key for /stopcasting.
