Issue is resolved.

A couple of things need to be modified and I'll edit it in the main post.

assisting needs to look like this, I noticed a problem if the main died it didn't cross over smoothly

/assist [target=Aelli, nodead, exists]
/cast Lightning Bolt

This also works perfectly for following

/targetexact Aelli
/follow
