In my time spent scouring the various WoW forums, I remember reading something recently saying that if a warlock was ungrouped with someone...the demon could help kill a mob but the original tagger get the XP.....eg:

- Me (warlock) is in Northrend with my GF who's playing her rogue....but the characters are not in a group together.
- Rogue tags a mob and starts to do damage.
- Warlock sends in felguard to help with DPS.
- The warlock does NOT engage the mob in any way

Is it the case that the rogue will suffer no loss to XP?
I haven't confirmed this, but I think the principle that Blizzard worked out is that if you are within a certain level range of the higher level toon (like 9 levels), then you would still get full credit for the kill. Outside of this range, you only get a smaller percentage of the regular xps, scaling based on the level range difference. A level 80 warlock (or even pet) doing almost all the damage for, say, a level 30 rogue would mean very little xps for the rogue. A warlock pet is still considered a "player" for the purposes of calculations.
