Default What is normal, sustained DPS at level 80?

Ok, I'm theory crafting for Gluth 10 man, and the conclusion I reached was that if I just let the Zombie chow get eaten, I need to do 22880 (14805 if a healing debuff affects the 5% health regained) raid DPS to kill him before the enrage time. This puts me at about 3269 (2115) DPS for my straight DPS classes, and 1635 (1058 ) for my tanks. Is this possible, generally speaking? The numbers in parenthises are what I need to do in the case of wound poison/mortal Strike, which seem pretty handily obtainable. The original numbers seem a little more difficult to pull off.

Of course, I've been 80 for all of a few hours of actual played time, so I'm still gearing up for heroics and all that good stuff, which leads me to the titular question: What is normal, sustained DPS at 80?

Of course, given that I'm trying to figure out how to kill Gluth, if anyone has any ideas on how to handle the zombie chow outside of kiting, I'd love to hear that too.

The best DPS I have seen on my team for my ele shamans is 3600, with 2300sp (totem of wrath) and all trinkets/cooldown used plus bloodlust up the entire combat. Obviously this is not sustained as as soon as the trinket, elemental mastery, and bloodlust wear off the DPS drops a TON.

I'm not sure what is a realistic sustained DPS but I'd imagine at 2200+ sp as a boxer, you won't see much more than 2200-2400 dps single-target on your dps, and 1200 single target on your tank.

Your math on raid dps is pretty sound, except that healing debuffs don't affect the heal from zombies since it's not a healing spell, it'd be considered a restorative effect. I'm pretty sure this was hotfixed back in 40 man naxx. However, I can hit over 3.7k, consistently, on my 4 dps shamans on Patchwerk, so that's possible - if you're proposing to turn Gluth into a tank and burn. It depends on the level of gear, if you're hit capped, and what kind of raid buffs you're getting. But, not to rain on the parade, to give you a kind of idea, the best Patchwerk kill with the group I normally run with was 3minutes3seconds. That's raid dps of 23,606. To even think that we could maintain that dps over 8 straight minutes, is pretty laughable. On a short burst fight, yes, on Gluth, highly unlikley.

Point being, unless you've gotten the <Make Quick Werk of Him> achievement or come even remotely close, I don't think this is likely.

In 10 man, I've done 3:13 fastest on Patchwerk, I'm pretty much solid the top 4 dps though. Like Alemi, I do consitent 3.6/3.7k dps without flask.

Gluth we always kill before the second decimate. I usually start max range on gluth, when first decimate comes I keep dpsing gluth, when zombies go close I drop magma totems and move close to Gluth (melee range), keep dpsing gluth, when zombies come, if they arent dead yet, round robin thunderstorm while dpsing gluth.

This way we kill him well before the second decimate.

Mage and moonkin do the kiting for us.

3.2k dps is below average for a raider with all proper raid buffs\debuffs and in decent pve gear.
My 5 shammies in full mixed blue\purple pvp gear are doing around 14k persistent group dps on boss dummy in Org without any other buffs\trinkets\lust, it means around 2.8k per shammy. If you gem\enchant your team purely for PvE and add some raid buffs and lust, 3.2k should be obtainable.

You can't count bloodlust since the fight is going to last longer than 35 seconds :P Also many raidwide buffs that sustain/boost DPS, such as pally replenish or boomkin crit aura, are less likely to be there in 10 man single-person multiboxing.

Remember in 10 man you only need 1 person kiting, all zombies spawn from central grate. You will have a lot easier time in naxx if you can take 2 people and one person can do the odd stuff like kiting in the back on Gluth. I'm not sure burning Gluth is really a viable strat, as its been pointed out MS/etc do not affect his "gulp" ability, so you are looking at a 5% HP restore every (20?) seconds, you would need some crazy DPS to overcome that.

You can. Just the fact that fight lasts longer than BL duration doesn't mean that BL won't affect overall DPS. For a 2 minute fight BL means ~10% overall DPS increase.

I get high 3k's in raids as long as there is a debuff such as ebon plague or a boomkin in the raid.
If your above 3k though in general in a raid setting I think your doing fine, if it's a 10 man with a crappy comp or a 5 man and your pulling 2500+ your still doing fine
