The cool thing was that he hopped over zone lines.
In EQ1 there were distinct loading points on the maps, where you had to load into the next zone. Non-existent today, but very annoying back in the day.
Mobs would not give up at all. If you aggro'd, they chased you forever, unless you could get to the zone line. When you loaded into the next zone, you dropped aggro, but if the mobs were still on the other side they would aggro onto whoever was there. This is what caused massive "trains" of mobs to pile up at zone entrances.
So all of the mobs were contained in their specific zone. But only the Sleeper could hop across these zone lines, and he had a near zone-wide aggro, where he wouldn't rest until everything in the zone was dead.
Imagine Ony, or some equivalent, being released in the Barrens with a super huge aggro radius. Good times.![]()
