@Bamaboy
if u notice the Problem is under Windows Vista u use XP there is no problem with that kind of tricks..
and even ur Way wont work under vista...

To clarify, I am plugging both monitors via DVI into the same nVidia graphics card. I can extend the desktop (or clone the display) just fine using the built in nVidia tool.
What I can't do is "span" the display across two monitors. This is somewhat different than the extended desktop functionality. For example, using horizontal span mode on monitors with native resolution of 1680x1050, I could run a full screen game at 3360x1050 and treat both monitors as essentially one large display. Under XP, this option was available in the nVidia tool, and was called horizontal span mode. I no longer have this option in vista, and it seems that, for some reasons I don't completely understand, this option is no longer available in vista (as indicated by landis).
After a lot of googling, I can't find any software based solution to this. So it seems like this is just yet another case of vista somehow providing less functionality than XP, but I'd like to be sure before giving up on it.

Nvidea answer:
Horizontal and Vertical span modes are no longer available under Windows Vista.
Due to architectural changes in the new Windows Vista Window Display Driver Model (WDDM), span mode cannot be supported in NVIDIA graphics drivers. NVIDIA recommends using the built-in Windows Vista multi-display modes.

Really I`m not anti Microsoft geek but after buying 2 22 inches monitor, new
HDD and Vista Ultimate 64bit and NVidia 280 card and after desperate search I found out
that horizontal span gone!!! You are joking. All cost me a lot of money and I
did it because of MSFS X and Dirext X X shit . All product legal and paid. What
disappointment, Microsoft!
