I am using a 4870 1gb for a 2 monitor setup. One full screen and the other 4 smaller thumbnails on the other monitor (IS windowsnapper). I use a lower resolution than you are planning. I don't see the GPU power usage go over 50% in the Ati control panel. Video card core temp is not an issue either.
