Default Anyone Tried to Play with Joypad?!

    Hey fellow Boxers,

I know you can't bind the JButtons directly but I found a Program on this PageJP to KB

It's kinda Fun but the but the Control is kinda squishy because you get only Command for Axis UP DOWN LEFT RIGHT no diagonal (haven't found yet) what makes it kinda squishy, but with a bit practice I needed less then 5 Minutes, it felt really cool. Like some Samurai game for Console (did a Rogue to Test).

I came to this Idea because some / many are Using just a few macros with /Castrandom So you need just 1 Key for DMG. Castrotation / Castrandom for a Tank only a second Key. You could bind Modifiers too. Even Mousemovement seems to be doable (gonna Test it tomorrow) left and Right Click are doable too.

    Cons:
    - Movement if you're not into Console playing you may not be able to get the feeling for the Controls so fast.
    - Mouse Movement Which Combines: Queststuff sometimes you have to choose the quest, so just accepting it isn't enough.
-And: Targeting Enemies and Camera Angle. Maybe doable with MAcro/ Keyboard binding for Setview up down from the Controls. (Targetting maybe via Tab)

    Pros:
    - Feels really cool even with a few bugs wannabe PS2 Pad with 2 Analog sticks(clickable) 4 Shoulders.
    - Comfortable, you could set it to your TV and play in the living room like a Console, it feels like this (for me)
    - Free and if you have a Joypad you can try it easily.

It's not the overall answer and PvP isn'T a good Idea unless your used to it, and with more toons it's kinda tricky I guess. Butt for easy PvE stuff I recommend it even for Easy Instances. You can even change anytime to your Keyboard & Mouse, you just bind the KEys of your Pad as it would be your Keyboard (Just another Input device, with remapped Buttons)

Just wanted to share this, I definitely try it out, and give some news back up.

    Upcoming tests:
    Mousemovement
    Camera Angles
    Targetting
    Maybe getting beter Movement Controls

Making a movie, and maybe a guide if someone needs it (but it's so easy too bind, if you no the numbers of the buttons)

I remember long ago, one of the best players in my high end pre-bc raiding guild played with a joypad.
I'm going to live forever, or die trying.

I was just sitting here going through how many different button combinations you could assign to this. As long as the drivers were up to scratch, you could use the 4 shoulder buttons as shift keys. I reckon you could achieve the following with a PS2 style pad.

    • X
    • ?
    • O
    • ?
    • R1 + X
    • R1 +?
    • R1 + O
    • R1 + ?
    • R2 + X
    • R2 +?
    • R2 + O
    • R2 + ?
    • L1 + X
    • L1 +?
    • L1 + O
    • L1 + ?
    • L2 + X
    • L2 +?
    • L2 + O
    • L2 + ?
    • Up
    • Down
    • Left
    • Right
    • R1 + Up
    • R1 + Down
    • R1 + Left
    • R1 + Right
    • R2 + Up
    • R2 + Down
    • R2 + Left
    • R2 + Right
    • L1 + Up
    • L1 + Down
    • L1 + Left
    • L1 + Right
    • L2 + Up
    • L2 + Down
    • L2 + Left
    • L2 + Right
    • R3
    • R4 (Not including as it's a ball ache to try and move whilst holding these down, for me at least)

That's 40 key binds just off the top of my head. Might be more on pads with back triggers etc.

IMHO though, you could never beat a powerglove.

    --------------
    Edit
    --------------

What am I saying? 40!? Screw 40! If you wrote your own decent version of that JoytoKey, you could have R1 + R2 + X = Greater Heal, R1 + L1 = Drop totem etc. Possibilities are smelling endless.

Am I wrong, or theoretically right?

Yeah you're right. You can use the shoulder Buttons as Shift ctrl alt etc. even in WoW this counts as a command so it's possible.

You can use R3 and L3 (the analog stick buttons) that would give you another 2* Modifier and Start+ Select 2*Modifier if you use just Shift ctrl alt this makes 2*3 +
    2 without Binding :

    R3L3(2*3+2)
Start Select (2*3+2) = 8+8 =16 With 4 Buttons and 3 Single Modifiers. If you would stack the Modifiers like ctrl+alt shift+ctrl shift+alt makes 3+ per Button that equals another 12

    = 28 with only 4 Buttons

Learn all of it to play blind xD and you're insane (I mean with all of the 4 Buttons + 1 Shoulder [Just 3 Modifier] makes 7*5 =35) 6 different Modifiers + 1 without

Makes 63 Combinations (without Digipad) You can also Bind the Axis of your Analog sticks to Buttons that would eventually make another 4*7*2 =56?! + Digipad 28

    Makes a total of 84 + 63 =147 If I haven't done something wrong xD

That's what I call lot of Buttons on 10*10 cm ^^ Who needs a X-Keys Pad? xD Ok not so easy to control, But for me that'S really cool, I like thos combinations.

You do not really need so much buttons, the more Buttons the more possibilities are open, but these are some kind of extra thing.

I'm going to keep Upß with it, it's kinda Exciting^^

    You can do it also like this ctrl+ shift+alt (works with Wow , just tested it) as Modifier that's another one so 147 + 4 Buttons right + 4 Digipad +1 shoulder+ start+ select +L3+R3 (13) + Analog sticks 2x4 = 8

    Makes a total of 168 Buttons/Combinations for ~10Bugs, try to beat that^^

btw, sad but true I'm not a programmer my only programming "skills" are a bit of html + ahk scripting, that's the end, sad but true. Would like to do more/ know more... but don't have the time for that , right now^^

    Edit:

    OMFG
I'm so going to use this Just figured out how to use my Digipad as different Buttons as my Analog sticks, so Analog is going to be Movement and Digipad is for the Mouse to move, only thing needed(when I start 5box again) now is Mousebroadcasting and I'm fine^^

Some tipps: (These work only If you have a PS2 like Gamepad, with a switch to let the Analog and Digipad do different things)
On the right side of this Prog you can see "Preferences" Vertical, click It and set the following thing on:
    -Use POV switches

This is letting you to set up 2 different movements or more buttons for Combination or maybe toon movement. My head explodes ^^

    N8

    Edit2:
Title was just testing of my Digipad and Analog stickwd was digipad as was analog ^^

i never thought about doing this the way you all have explained it (shoulders for modifiers, etc). makes me want to try it....

The only reason why I think of Shoulders as Modifiers is Tomb Raider 2 for PSX I guess where you Modified you Movement speed from normal (running) to slow.

Know the Shoulders Are more "active" Buttons with shooting and that stuff, it'S kinda Comfortable but I like them as Modifiers and maybe 1 for dmg or something because you only have3 Modifiers in WoW (Combined they are up to 7) You could also get the right analog stick up and down to make them 2 Modifiers it's easier Came just into my mind (but it's crappy you can't do up and down at the same time -.- 2 ModCombinations less) only 120 ButtonCombinations left

I Hope I can start soon, this is going to be the coolest and most stylish WoW time I've had ^^

Lol, why is everyone trying to re-invent the wheel? A keyboard works just fine.

Wanna sit back away from your screen? That's the only advantage I could see. At that point, get a wireless keyboard.

If I would want to re-invent the wheel. I'm not that good in Physics LOL
Could just say n52te and G13 and Xkeys are useless too. But most people who have one do not regret there bargains.
It's maybe just a different playstyle, and many/somepeople can't play via Keyboard and are used to Gamepads.

Btw, yeah you can just sit on your Chair with a Wireless KB and a Wireless mouse -.- wtf? where are you holding it? in the air? What kind o desk do you need for that?!

Anyway, I just throw my Ideas in the room.

G13, Xkeys, etc. are for extra buttons, not as a main controller for the game. I do agree that using gamepad buttons as additional keys for macros would be very useful.

I'm mainly referring to controlling the entire game with a gamepad. You're talking mouse movement and camera angles... which is much easier with a mouse rather than a D-pad. X-Y control is easy as hell, but acceleration curves are going to be a bitch to make useful with a gamepad.

WoW has been out for... 5 years now? If using a gamepad was a popular choice for controlling your character(s), then a bigwig company would have already made such a device. (Or there would be a lot of homebrew-gamepad users... either way, neither exist.)

I'm not trying to pee on your parade, just trying to understand the reasoning for like I said, "reinventing the wheel".
