Default How do I calculate the damage output my shamans do at once?

I honestly have never delved into how much damage I'm actually doing to someone in PVP. I just run around questing and toast people when they laughingly try to toast me...got me to thinking.

To begin let's say I have roughly 1290 spell damage on all 5 (I'm only 79 and in blues and greens minimal enchants). I'd like to know how much damage I'm actually doing to an enemy player with the standard flameshock+lava burst combo.

The tool tip for flame shock is something like 500-550

The tool tip for lava burst shows something akin to 1290-1580.

    So,

When I open up on someone does the bonus spell damage get included as a whole or a partial?

    Do I get to calculate it as follows?: (500 + 1290) followed by say average (1420 + 1290) x 5 = 22,500

That's without the crit on lava burst. Can someone point me to a link or page that will explain this...or better yet, can someone here explain it.

    Thanks.

Thank you weeep for the link.

    Flame ShockDD 21.42% Patch 3.0.3

Flame ShockDoT 10% per tick (40% unglyphed, 60% w/ glyph total) Patch 3.0.3

    Lava Burst 57.14% Patch 3.0.3

    So on avg it would seem that it would go something like this;

    (5 x 525dmg) + (5 x 276) bonus for initial flameshock direct damage opening salvo. 276 is 21% of my 1290 spell power
    (5 x 1420dmg) + (5 x 809) bonus for lava burst. 809 is 57% of my 1290 spell power

    2625 + 1380 = 4005
    7100 + 4045 = 11145
    --------------------------
approx = 15150 damage for an opening salvo that doesn't include the flameshock DOT that is ticking while you spin up lava burst AND the crit bonus with the glyph.

How much of this damage is mitigated by resil I wonder...?

damage meter, you can configure it to show total DPS. Also shows past fights (set how many back you want to keep) and current fight as well as overall since you reset.

I like it quite a bit as a damage meter, though i am not tied to it if anyone recommends a better one.

Multiply that 11145 by the crit factor (varies by spec) and you will see a figure much larger than 15k total.

I consider myself to have high amounts of resilience, at about 740, I reduce crit bonus damage by about 20%.

Keep in mind however that it will take a few seconds to fire off this opening salvo (fire FS, 1sec for GCD, then cast time of lava bust) and most opponents are going to be running around with 18-24k HP, plus any HoTs they have rolling on them will mitigate some of this damage. In those 2-3.5 seconds it took you to fire off this salvo, what are they doing?

The damage will also be a bit more variable, as there are ranges to the various spells and crits. Some may have auras/gear/etc that also provide some resistance to fire damage so that would also have to be taken into consideration.

I see LB for shaman is at +71.43% and no mention of talents... so i assume that with the glyph +4% and with the talent +10% it would = +85.43% (seems nice)

Big difference i noticed with the druids and shamans here is that:
LvB is at +57.14 and no mention of talents... so i assume it with the talent +20% = +77.14% (crit bonus is +124%)
    and
SF is at +100% and is raised to +120% with talents.

Starfall's scaling is much more win. LvB is nice being such a short cast and being an auto crit (but of course then shaman don't benefit "as much" from crit).

Question: Shaman get +5% damage from concussion and +6% damage from call of flame (on LvB). Is this +11% applied to the total damage after all other calcs = base damage + spell power + 11%, or it is applied only to the base spell damage before the spell power addition, or is it something else.

This seems important and i can't find an answer to it.

For what its worth on the shaman forums now the is a post about how high LvB is crit for both self buffed and raid buffed. It seems like people are able to get anywhere from 10k to 14k from a single LvB and higher with raid buffs. People posting about getting 8.5k before the patch on single LvB. In this case x5 could be HUGE.

Oh and where is the bonus damage % from those talents applied?

Ya know those big LvB are only good in PvE. Even before the patch no one could live through my 4 x Flameshock, LvB combo without an immunity spell. I havent run into a situation where someone lived through it, so really more damage on it is kinda useless in PvP. I guess you could do split damage on LvB in arena and hope that it would be too much for their healer. Im not that good at arena though =)
