Default Waiting for laptop - About to buy LCD TV (Huge) - Pixels?

    Hey folks

I noticed a picture on here yesterday of a guy with a (I think) 50" TV as his main monitor. The text looked fairly crispy and readable, which was the main reason I had hesitated in the past, thinking that text would look awful.

Anyhoo, I'm waiting for my new Rock monster laptop and want to pop out and buy a giant LCD TV for the monitor. Main questions are:

    • What resolution would you say I should be looking for
    • What are your experiences with very recent LCD TVs as monitors
    • Any problems with Nvidia / ATI software that you've seen with TVs?

Also, any random thoughts you may have are most appreciated.

:!: [EDIT]: BTW, I'm not being a search function noob. The most recent post I saw regarding TVs as monitors was a good while ago. There are some amazing LCDs available on the market now and wanted a more up to date opinion.

You definitely want a true 1080p TV. That'll have 1920x1080 pixels, which is slightly less than a 24" computer monitor. Many 1080p TVs have a computer input for DVI, but as long as it has HDMI you'll be able to connect it to a computer with a DVI-HDMI cable adapter. Next, I'd look only at 120Hz displays. 60Hz is usually more than your videocard can display at 1920x1080 anyway, but I'd rather have more room for growth. Finally, an LED-backlit TV would be an ideal choice. All of Samsung's 950-series TVs have all of these qualities, and they come in as large as 55".

However, you need to sit far from it for the text to be crisp, so don't put it 2 feet in front of your face. I'd personally rather have a 30" Dell (2560x1600 resolution) than a larger TV as a computer monitor, since you'll be able to sit closer to it, have a much higher resolution, and cost a lot less.
    Ex-WoW 5-boxer.
    Currently playing:
    Akama [Empire of Orlando]
    Zandantilus - 85 Shaman, Teebow - 85 Paladin, Kodex - 85 Rogue.

Definitely going to 4-box Diablo 3 after testing the beta for how well this would work.
