Thread: Macaroon issue

Is it not possible for someone here to pick up the project and take a look at the issues we are having with it? I mean, all due respect to the orig author, but if he cann't be here to fix it, then why not the community come to the rescue? I'd do it if I understood programing at all.

My "fix" was this. Delete Macaroon, download Bartender 4 -> setup it, and play :P

Does anyone know where macaroon stores the macros? I am wanting to use bartender4 instaed but I dont want to recreate all of the macros that I created using macaroon, I can't seem to find them.
They're in the Macaroon SavedVariables file, which is (If I recall correctly - I'm not at my WoW PC right now so I can't confirm the exact filename/path) something like:

    .../WTF/<accountName>/<toonName>/SavedVariables/Macaroon.lua

The macros are buried somewhere deep in the file along with loads of other configuration info.

I do so love how I have mine set up. :) With my "base configuration" saved, all I lost was the locations of my character specific macro's, and 90% of those are just drag and drop from my spell book. So once I found the fix, I just loaded the profile and I was set to go.

As to why I use macaroon?

In order to set this up I have 15 different bars and around 40 macro's in my "base configuartion" that does not include actual casted macro's. That is not possible with any other add on I am aware of.

I didn't realise there had been any API changes that could impact on addons, so I logged in yesterday without changing anything. My ui looked lovely and clean, but unfortunately empty of actionbars, menu and rep bar. Then I went to get the latest version of macaroon thinking that that would fix it.

By the end of trying I'd managed to get a cast bar and rep bar to show up, luckily I wasn't planning to play anyway so it wasn't too annoying. Unfortunately I didn't save any profiles recently, so I'll have to redo that from scratch. I'm raiding tonight, so my main objective will be to find something that works for that, I think I'll probably look into a new mod that is less likely to completely break my interface should it stop working.

I was a real fan of trinity after I'd got to grips with it and I liked the way Macaroon was heading, but it's never felt completely finished to me (anchor buttons still not working, changing from one profile to another could lead to issues) and as I'd need to redo my actionbars anyway I figure I might aswell go for something with a little more stability.

What part of that addon was it that makes you guys use it despite the issues and the fact it's not being updated.
    1. Profiles
Possibly the only thing about that addon that ever worked right for me. Also the single greatest feature of any action bar mod ever. It's the only reason I didn't immediately delete the rest of that addon when I had a persisting error in 90% of my macaroon macro's, and poor functionality in possess/vehicle bars
You could actually use Macaroon much like you do normal WoW -- you just bind things to action buttons (the standard WoW bars) rather than Macaroon buttons and they'd show up as normal when you log in without Macaroon present. Of course, that means you'd have to use normal /macros and the like, but it's very flexible.
I became very familiar with this function while using Macaroon as I had to use normal /macros alot due to Macaroon not working with certain macro commands correctly. I would rather use an addon like bartender, with limited options but rock solid, then an addon that has a bunch of great functionality that doesn't work properly.

However if Macaroon were ever fixed I would go back to it in a heartbeat. I'm sorry that addon is too broken to be useful to me right now. There's plenty of addons that cover macaroons core goodness but are updated and function completely. It's just a shame to need 2-4 addons to do the same thing as 1 and still be missing out on the best 1-2 features.

I miss discord action bars. To bad 90% of what that mod did was changed to protected functions.

I realize that 1 line code edits are hard for the average player, but I'd expect any multiboxer worth his assist macro to be able to muddle through it...

I made that change, and everything was solid.

Not sure if your talking to me Zanthor.... but if you are, my Macaroon was broken long before 3.0.8 and I abandoned it weeks ago because I've been doing a lot of serious arena and a macro error message or broken keybind mid match was costing me matches so I went back to using Bartender for solo character play and just dealing with it.

I have been trying as many options as I can for my 5 box hoping something can rival Macaroon or I may end up with Macaroon and a separate install for Solo/Arena

    Ok update for me....

So far priest and warlock do not have any errors when running Macaroon. All shamans were converted to Bindpad & standard blizzard bars because of a persistent Macaroon_Buttons error that would pop up every few seconds and eventually make WoW want to disable it (got the too many errors message).

What I have been able to determine so far (and still investigating) is that the error that pops up has to do with passing a null castsequence spell through a lower() function in the add on script. I manually edited one of my shamans /castsequences to fill in "abc" between (and before) commas in the Macaroon.lua in shaman's WTF folder and the errors went away. I logged in to find that Macaroon was no longer complaining but had since restored the entire WTF folder and in my next test I got the errors again.

Does anyone know of a "null" type spell that I can use between commas that would be a valid do nothing spell? I'll do more testing and report back later tonight.

The one other concern (because I miss Macaroon on my shamans) is someone else reported having some fps/lag issues with Macaroon running. I somewhat agree because when the crazy AOE in LWG happens I would drop down to almost do fps and my LWG oRA2 autoinvite would sometimes not catch an "INVITE" whisper. Late last night after LWG was up and running I had the default blizz bars oRA2 invites were almost instantaneous with the auto invites. Does anyone else have lag or fps issues when using Macaroon?
