so if I was naive, and logged in without the patch (but I DID update my addons before loggin in...) am I screwed? Or will i have to start from scratch and/or find an old wtf backup?

    Tested:
    1. Loading/unloading profiles -- OK!
    2. Changing stances (Tree of Life form, Caster form) -- OK!
    3. Editing macro buttons -- OK!
    4. Saving a profile -- OK!
    5. Creating a new bar -- OK!

In other words, I see no problems once I updated to the 3rd party "fix" directly over the current version of Macaroon found on this official WoWInterface page.

I ran these steps on 4 additional computers with 4 additional accounts and have the same experience. In other words, I can't reproduce the stance issue -- however, my boyfriend (running these steps) has his buttons stuck in the default stance on his WARRIOR, so it's possible druids are exempt from this issue?[/url]
    That didn't work for me

    I followed your guidelines...

pre-patch, back up the WTF directory
    apply WoW patch
apply the official Macaroon patch (v30000.30)
    logged in - no bars
    applied the 3rd party fix
logged in - still no bars

    and then did...
restored the macaroon*.lua files from the character's WTF directory
logged in - bars and buttons are back

    All seems fine again... phew!

I just backed up my WTF config and applied the 3rd party macaroon fix (not the new official version), everything seemed fine. No issues yet that I know of

Well, the main problems that come to mind that caused me to abandon macaroon are:

I use 8 WoW folders for 5 accounts, 5 are for individual boxing setups. 1 for raid, 1 for arena, 1 for solo. This was actually the reason I got macaroon as I had way to many macro's and some of them were huge and it was nice to be able to save different setups for same toon. After a while though I decided that doing this with Macaroon just causes all my keybinds to get messed up alot (even though all action bars are the same binds and the same bars as every other folder)

Macros do not work the same as in game macros. I found myself nearly maxing out my available wow macros just for the specific macros macaroon can't handle or doesn't do right.

My priest has a chronic UI error cause by macaroon on like 5 different macros and I wasn't able to solve it.

For some reason my vehicle bar kept losing it's keybindings in the middle of SotAncients

Having to have 2 possess bars to handle pet vehicles was really annoying. Somehow I think this was a setup issue on my part but with the rest of the issues with that program, it wasn't worth it.

I did have a wrong version installed for a while, but I followed the really great guide posted here for /click macros and by the time I was done with that I realized that my macros were so damn complicated that most of them didn't work the same as an ingame version or they had an annoying error message on screen 90% of the time.

I switched back to bartender 4 and for 2 weeks now I couldn't have been happier. I imagine most of it was due to my non-traditional more than one install / toon and the fact that I write retarded macros for 6 different classes.

EDIT: Besides I never found any useful functionality that was unique to macaroon. What part of that addon was it that makes you guys use it despite the issues and the fact it's not being updated.

Macaroon was great, it could have unlimited bars and unlimited macros. I even had made a panel of Macaroon macros that wrote 4 standard WoW totem macros so that on any shaman I could show the panel (through Macaroon hide/unhide macro) click a totem to change the real macro. That way I wouldn't have to open my damn spell book, go hunt for a totem then drag it to the bar.

I get a persistent Macaroon error now so I can't use it or have to re-do everything in Macaroon...been trying bindpad, it's ok. Tried Bartender 4 also last night and it's clunky and not very robust.

I forgot to add ... between "use 3rd party fix" and "weeee, all my bars are back, I did have to load a Macaroon profile (just one; the other accounts didn't require it) to get bars to show up after following Vyndree's directions. Your mileage may vary, but if you haven't tried that, definitely do.

What part of that addon was it that makes you guys use it despite the issues and the fact it's not being updated.
    1. Profiles (can switch between "solo raiding" bars/macros/keybindings to "multibox healing" bars/macros/keybindings to "multibox dpsing" bars/macros/keybindings in a couple clicks)
    2. Unlimited # of buttons, macros and ginormous macro length

You could actually use Macaroon much like you do normal WoW -- you just bind things to action buttons (the standard WoW bars) rather than Macaroon buttons and they'd show up as normal when you log in without Macaroon present. Of course, that means you'd have to use normal /macros and the like, but it's very flexible. I moved to Macaroon from Trinity, and moved to Trinity from Bartender -- I'd hate to have to resort to going back to Bartender. I used to keep a seperate WTF folder just for switching between raid healing and multibox healing (main) and multibox healing (follower) that would swap all of my in-game /macros, and just design my macros and bars around this limitation. Really sucked, though.

The dev for Macaroon was actually quite active (even here on these boards), but from what I understand, his reason for being MIA has to do with an inability to access a computer at this time. I'm hoping he's OK, since when he was around he was great to work with.
