Default I thought this was interesting...

So someone was talking about multiboxing in EQ2 on VNboards and I made a comment. Was still researching SoE's stance on keyclone and such at the time.

I linked to keyclone and dual-boxing.com and informed people about what folks like us were doing.

I had my post edited and keyclone and dual-boxing.com removed and was warned about hacking from a VNmod.

Then I and another Keyclone user got flamed off the forums.

Sad the people dont seem to be able to comprehend the difference between a bot and keyclone...

    Anyways an amusing read

if you ever get tired of that and want to hear people defend multiboxing, just go to the WOW forums for Magtheridon, damn they love us there

i find the posts calling multi-boxers 'botters' to be completely ill-informed about what makes a 'bot.

the term 'bot' is short for 'robot'... used when a person automates a series of tasks without having to interact. a robot would also require some level of timing and decision control.. which will mimic light artificial intelligence.

simple wiring does not make a robot. keyclone is essentially wiring to route keys to their intended destination. no timing mechanism and no decision support. keyclone SPECIFICALLY has none of this capability.

having written several expert systems and utilized AI within some of my systems, how uninformed do i think some of these people are?

by their definition... by plugging in Christmas lights you would be botting in their eyes

hehe yeah its rather obvious common sense is completely wasted on those folks.

I think it's just a panic reaction by a mod who sees someone using an external program to aid in their playing of a game. It's not an entirely unreasonable first reaction, in my opinion.

From a theoretical standpoint, keyclone does little more than an operating system (the client part of it, anyway). After all, the front-end of an OS is nothing but a glorified way of routing input to programs.

The OS provides substantial benefit to multiboxers on the output side too. It's hard to argue that keyclone makes someone more capable of botting than say... windows does.. afterall.. windows lets me keep all these WoWs applications running smoothly at the same time. And the nvidia drivers let me organize the output in a useful way.

That's an interesting read, but the level of ignorance there is absolutely astounding! I found this quote from somebody who claims to know the difference between bots and boxers (because he apparently boxed "back in the day") particularly outstanding:

When you are in a 4 5 or 6 man “box” group and the mobs all on autofollow magically start combat at exactly the same time, you are either a freak with 6 arms, or you are running bots.
That just about sums up the total ignorance (in it's purest form - simple lack of knowledge) present in most of those posts. The idea of a hardware multiplexer or even multiple wireless keyboards bound to a single receiver has clearly just never occured to this person.

Amazingly narrow-minded. The same person also commented:

The other recommended software in a sticky on that forum are more clearly bot programs. Many of them let you put in a timed sequence for casting, then continuously poll the results of /assist a player until a legitimate target is returned. Once it is they immediately start running the completely animated macro that cycles through preset casting or CA chains. If the mob is out of range or moves out of range during the fight, they will even close to max range on the mob, automatically.
Where's that? I couldn't see it, but if true then it should be removed as it would be in breech of the community guidelines for this forum. I looked and couldn't see it.

The other thing that caught my eye was a comment that "excessive use of autofollow can get you banned". I wonder if that's true for EQ, or if it's just some random chest-beating from a hater?

    Interesting stuff.

I found dinglehopper1 rather amusing "ofc I know what multiboxing is and it WILL make you a botter!". If there was any truth to what he's saying, 90 % of the lot on this forum would be botting by now :P
