Well this was by EQ2 multi boxing experience:
For EQ1 I always played on the test server since regular server were unplayable to me (dungeon crowding, KSing etc). I played from launch until the PoP expansion, then again a little around LDoN release. Never had a problem.
For EQ2 launch I played for a few weeks (4 box) before WoW launched but then I switched to WoW.
I tried EQ2 a little over a year ago again on a test server and this was my experience (6 box):
I played (light weight) for about two months. Gameplay is not as shall we say tactically refined as WoW (you mostly just spam all your abilities whenever you can regardless) but the graphics were pretty good, there were alot of quests and some nostalgia factor. Overall I was mostly having fun.
Then one day I was crafting spells in a crafting instance for my characters. I had my toons nearby so I could look up which spells they needed upgraded level by level. I would make the spells and pass them around.
Anyway I was busy mashing the keyboard on the first toon and watching the crafting events when bam one of my other toons crashes to desktop. Ok no biggy that is what happens when instance crashes (happens alot to crafting instances). I tried logging in and to my astonishment it says:
Cannot log in your account is banned.
I have never been banned from anything (cheating or otherwise) so this was quite a shock. I quickly glanc over to my other toons and just noticed a GM tell saying something like:
I hope you have logging on, you are getting banned (or something close to that).
I managed to send him a tell with one of my toons before he was kicked asking if we can talk about this and he told me no to send email to the accountstatus (if I remember right) SOE email.
I did not have chat logging on so I do not for 100% what happened but as nearly as I can tell he send a /tell to one of my characters that was standing around the crafting machine (but was not crafting) and when he received no reply he banned all 6. It IS possible he send a tell to toon #1 but I was just not watching the chat bar at all but the crafting event window so I would not know.
Needless to say I sent a couple of emails to the appropiate address (I looked it up specifically on their FAQ where to send email if you were banned) and unsurprisingly received no reply whosoever.
I always heard from live servers that the SoE CS was pure shit but as I played on EQ1 test server we had no CS (and apparently from my experience no CS >> SoE CS)
So in the end I just concluded that the SoE people are just too stupid to live and moved on.
For the record I was not using any software, just 6 computers with 6 trackballs and 6 keyboards, 6 LCDs.
So from my experience EQ2 is just not a good game for multi boxing as you can get banned for simply not responding to a tell when afk.
Your mileage my vary. I put SONY in that same place in memory where EA lives for all the shit they did to Origin, Kesmai and so many others.
