No, you didn't confuse me (which might have been hard to presume based on my totally neophyte posts on this topic thus far!).

I'm just trying to get my head around combat with the G13 versus my standard keyboard/mouse today. What I know for sure is that I need to have ready access to more commands as my team hits more challenging content. (I've almost exclusively boosted until my team caught my warlock.)

Then, for bags, trades, chat, etc. you use the keyboard.

Why not use the G11 keyboard? Seems like the bank of 18 keys brings a lot of ready utility?

Also, am I missing something or does the G13 limit you to 25 keys? Is there some key modifier (e.g., "alt") that can be used to double or triple the keys while using all on one hand?

As an example, I have a lot of "left side" keyboard stuff set up so I can use my left hand exclusively to modify a keystroke. (i.e., alt-1) So, I'm probably pretty close to 25, single-left-hand commands just using my keyboard. Seems the G13 would be real limiting versus the G11 keyboard that would give me another 18 keys (no mod) and up to 36 more (54 total) with a mod that I might even be able to do with just my left hand?

i do believe there is a "state" key, however, unlike the N52 where each state has its own color coded glow, the color glow of the G13 is independent of the state you're in.
now, if you just make one of the buttons "Shift" and another button "Alt".
I can totally see myself using the G20 key as ALT, the G21 key as SHIFT and the G22 key as CTRL. Also the G15 key will be designated as TAB to switch targets.
G9 to G13 will be my 1-5, and G2 to G6 will be my 6-0. then i have 8 other keys to play with.
there are two thumb buttons so you have the option of using them for anythign. i'd jump with one at least. many people use the controller to control their slaves. i would check to see if i can use it to control my main, while ALT+controller to move my slaves.

anyway, if you look closely, right between the keys and the screen, you can see four buttons labeled M1, M2, M3 and MR. i believe those to be state keys, 3 states, 1 to save the state. correct me if im wrong.

    My $0.02

    1. I was really used to the nostormo "thumb" button switched out to "shift" as I use shift for all self targets (important for priest pvp). The location of the "thumb" button on the g13 had my hand kinda cramped and feeling pressure. I tried like 13 (hahah) setups during the weekend and then it dawned on me ... use the joystick for shift / alt / ctrl / ctrl & alt ... man it worked like a charm. My thumb was in a similar position to N52 but now I had 4 buttons to use instead of just 1. I was very happy with this.

    2. If you have ever used the G15, the keys are very easy to press yet you know that you have pressed them. The G13 is identical to this.

    3. The config software for N52 is ok, but the g13 has the best software I have used to date. Very, easy.

    4. The one thing I was disappointed with was the use of keyboard "states" with the nostromo you can bind any key to shift different states. It seems (i say seems because I haven't explored all options yet) the only way to change states on the g13 is using the 3 provided M keys.

    5. I always placed the N52 on a mousepad because it tended to slip around. The g13 is directly on my desk and it just doesn't move.

    6. Key reach ... well there are more keys so you do have to "reach" for some of them, I think this is mostly training however and I will get used to it.

I consider the $79 well spent

To answer a previous question, you can set different colors for each state (M1,M2,M3). In the profiler you right click on the M-key and drop down list appears letting you select a color.
