Default Upgrading Laptop - will it run 5?

Right, I've had enough. I'm sweating like a pig on a daily basis. Is it because I'm overweight and hairy? No. It's because Satan is using my full hardware setup as a tanning salon. I have now gotten to the stage where I know that after exactly 37 minutes, I will have to undress and play world of nudecraft.

I rent my accomodation and there's no option to fit AC. I have a small unit in a small room but is totally underpowered. I tried buffing it with 2 desk fans but that failed too. My windows are PVC and only open half an inch.

So, after much deliberating, I have decided to sell all of my boxes. My brother wants them as he owns a lan party café / nerd cave.

My question is, will this run all 5 instances of WoW without incident? Also, how will I run 5 monitors?

Here is the spec. Oh, by the way, it's a laptop. Will suit me better due to me being mainly offsite for the next 15 months.

    • ROCK XSL8-Q9550
    • Q9550 Quad core 2.83Ghz 12Mb,1333Mhz
    • 2 x Nvidia GeForce Go 9800M GTX 1GB
    • 8GB DDR2 667Mhz /
    • 3 x 250GB 7200rpm SATA HDD
    • Vista or XP 64

I don't even know how they fit all of this crap into a laptop but it seems legit. Anybody got experience of playing on a lappy or is it just a foolish endeavour?

i had to setup a gaming laptop for someone (an alienware - no quite as good spec - but still dual card) i found that it would run 5 quite happily the main was running at 60 and slaves (4) where running at 30-35, so you shouldn't have a problem running 5 on this machine

as for the 5 monitor issue, you run all 5 on the screen at once (4 down the side) - i used keyclone to do this and use the PiP function to Switch screens

I happily play five on an iMac, with only one 24' screen and pretty much the same layout Mikekim describes. Even though they are literally desktop computers, iMac are in fact made of mostly laptop parts.

You will have no problem running five clients with this beast.

Yup, it will run very well on that laptop. Enjoy.

It's a bit lower spec but I was thinking of this:

    About £1000 cheaper!

Heh, that was a pretty funny post

I'd run my current master on an external monitor and have the slaves be on the laptop in quadrants. I only run three, but my master is on my big screen TV while my slaves take up the upper two halves of my laptop (leaving the bottom half of my laptop screen empty for IM or whatever. I'd rather have the slaves nicely situation, but if I don't keep the widescreen dimensions the same between the laptop, TV, and WoW then it seems to introduce delays when switching masters (FTL setup). Plus, I don't like seeing my toons stretched really wide or really tall.

Default this baby should run HOT

I can't image you get all of that into a laptop and can actually place it on your lap without burning yourself. you would brand yourself.

You will need to buy a laptop cooler just to prevent a meltdown.
    maybe a Zalman ZM-NC1000 or a Rosewill RNA-7000W.

I got the Rosewill one for my Dell gaming laptop, it used to overheat a freeze up with just one copy of wow running. It runs fine now.
My Dell doesn't run multiple copies of wow well however it's a few years old. This hardware sounds pretty nice.

I know, when I first saw it I was like "stfu". However, it seems to be for real.

    Check it out: http://www.rockdirect.com/configureN...Sku=XSL8-Q9550

I agree that it will run hotter than my Mom on a street corner, but I'll just buy a cooler for it. Hopefully that will sort any insane heat issues. 2 x 1GB graphics cards... lol.
