Default [SSD] Fusion-io ioDrive is the fastest storage device in the world

i am considering moving my main drive to an SSD, jumping load time performance and overall system performance... at which point, i stumbled across this:

    from the article:
"The ioDrive is a PCI Express storage card that can write at up to 368 MB/s and read at 473 MB/s to its NAND flash memory—or, for the layman: really, really damn fast." [ link ]

stupid expensive, but interesting for hardware geeks. (and no, i'd never consider paying that kind of $$$) thoughts?

The benchmarks are very interesting to read, a storage device that provides the high sustained write performance of a platter-based drive with the ultrafast access time of SSD technology - the Holy Grail, so to speak

Once this type of technology hits the consumer market the performance increase is going to be something profound that everyone from layman to tech can understand and feel.

It's all that and a bag of chips. Hard drives with moving parts will eventually disappear. Relatively instant load time is groovy. You may just not have a very high performance SSD.

in the not too distant future the disk HHD will be moved to the computer hall of fame, it's spot will be right next to the 3.5" disk, the 5.25" floppy and the cassette drive.

Not all SSD is good, there is a bunch on the market that are waaaay slower than your 5k platter hard drives. However I challenge you to get the Intel SSX (or whatever it's called) or the above drive and compare. You will notice a difference.
