    Default Performance vs System Specs

I was a bit scared to start 5-boxing with my current system after reading these boards, Various posts I read seemed to point towards only mega-high-end systems being able to handle it. People reporting 10 FPS with 8800 GFX cards, etc.

For some reason, i am getting 30-fps on all my windows with my current setup
core2 duo (i think its like 2.2ghz, dual core)
    7800 GEFORCE 256 MB
    4gb ram
windows xp (so im only using like 3gb of that ram)

maybe its just the 2.3 dual core improvements that are letting me get these framerates?

Interesting, single monitor? Resolutions? Graphics settings? AMD or Intel?

2 monitors (resolution is 1024x2560), Graphics settings i cannot remember, processor is Intel core2 duo. I only leveled the toons to 4 so far, so i dont know what it would be like in huge fights or instances, or in shattrath hehe.

Keep in mind that the low levels are VERY light, graphically.

You don't need an ultra high end system to 5 box on one CPU but you still need a decent graphics card and at least a dual core. Quads are getting cheaper though!

Quads are getting cheaper. I'm asking for newegg.com gift certificates for christmas from any family members. Hopefully in January or February there will be some nice deals to be had... as long as I can convince my wife that I need a 6th computer lol.

I am still on a socket 939 AMD so if I want to go quad it is a new board as well. The intel quads seem cheaper but it is a lot of work finding a good board.

My other option is to just go with a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4200+ 2.2GHz Socket 939 which is relatively cheap considering I don't need a new board.

I think I might give the 939 dual core a go and if it turns out to be too slow I will get a second box and do a 1-4 split.

Don't overlook AMDs quad options too. A bit slower but much less $$.

    (these prices are not US$)

    AMD Phenom 9500 AM2+ Quad Core 2.2GHz $387.90
    AMD Phenom 9600 AM2+ Quad core 2.3GHz $534.38
    AMD Phenom 9700 AM2+ Quad core 2.4GHz $698.96

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 2.4GHz, LGA775, quad core $393.83
    Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800 2.93GHz quad core 26 prices $780.00

Basically sticking to what I am comfortable paying. I haven't looked at actual performance charts yet but that Q6600 looks to be a winner considering price vs performance.

I am not seeing that at all but the Q6600 is, I believe faster. Might need to break down to cost / speed.

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Retail = $275

    AMD Phenom 9500 Agena 2.2GHz Quad-Core 4X 512KB L2 Cache 2MB L3 Cache Socket AM2 95W Processor - Retail = $259.00

I found this really interesting review. Everything you ever wanted to know about the AMD quad cores.

When quad-cores collide: AMD Phenom 9600 vs Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

The Q6600 seems to outperform the Phenoms, the 9700 might be on par with the Q6600 but it is way more expensive. I think if I buy a new box it will be an Intel Q6600 with a 8800 nVidia.
