Suppose it all depends what your time is worth vs affordability for ya, and after having experienced RAF I tend to side with your thoughts... I had something similar where I had my entire 5-box team and a few supporting characters move to a new server, after a few months *really* missed the old one... that's an expensive mistake to fix as well

heres what you do. Ive done this and it works its not an exploit, its not a scam

Start up 5 new accounst with the RAF do the DIGITAL upgrade only to regular WoW. grind all the way to 60 Transfer all the characters off these accounts to your main ones. Call blizzard and ask for a refund on the 5 accounts that you upgraded. Blizzard offers a 30 day money back guarentee on all games-period. if you went and bought store copies of the game you would have to send in the box and manuals to get the refund. I started 5 boxing 2 days before they announced the RAF promotion and i called blizz, told them i wanted a refund they froze the 5 accounts, gave me credit back on my CC and i started brand new ones.

and for the record you CAN transfer characters off a regular(not trial) account onto an upgraded(xpac) account.

Listen to Gizmo =) Was just going to suggest considering the same thing (less the refund, didn't know about that...thanks!! ). The only risk is that the transfer takes more than a couple of weeks. The few times I did it, it was within a week, but that is no guarantee. Still worth the risk IMO.

For me, I played alliance since the beginning. Heck my first multibox teams were Alliance. I realized I should try Horde half way through my RAF and finished up the rest of my RAF on Horde toons. Honestly, I never really noticed any difference besides the annoyingly huge Tauren....I might actually give him a sex change. Of course, I am 90% PVE.

I was a confirmed horde player for years.

Solo levelling 3 different classes to 70 and did some twinking etc.

Started multiboxing as most of the people I played with moved on, or quit till Wrath. I got a team of shaman and pally to 60.

Then I re-established contact with some ex-guild friends who had moved over to alliance. I leveled a small team to 60. pally, mage, mage and druid.

I loved the druid so much, and needed to get to 70 to be more involved with the guild at high level and so concentrated on him. I've since levelled him to 80.

So I've burned over 2 years of horde time - and don't regret it for 1 second. My only wish was that Blizzard would allow swapping sides with characters, but that looks very unlikely. (never say never)

Initially I struggled with being alliance. At every alliance town I would see characters I wanted to kill (I'm on a pve server, but I'd done enough bgs to view alliance as the enemy).

Over time this situation has reversed and want to kill horde.

Don't delete your alliance characters. Then no matter what happens you can pick up on the other side when needed.

I can't believe after playing horde so long you thought being alliance would be good!

I've been playing Horde for 3 1/2 years, tried alliance a couple times and o...m...g. The average IQ it seems is about 50 lower than the avg Horde IQ (which isn't very high to begin with). Seriously I had to give up playing alliance the 2 times I tried because there were so many idiots I couldn't actually find someone with enough intelligence to formulate a coherent sentence.

This was while single boxing - was never able to run a single instance because I couldn't find 4 other people that could function enough to get to the instance much less not die. As a multiboxer I wouldn't have to worry about that but I'd still have to listen to the stupidity in /say, /1, /2, etc constantly.

I remember my first day trying alliance, I went to stormwind, and I was running around one of those pools, and I saw someone using /say and screaming for help. I was like "uh...what?". Turns out he was in the pool and had been stuck there for 30 f'ing minutes and couldn't figure out how to get out. He kept asking me "OMG HOW DO I GET OUT OF HERE?".

Now, besides the fact that he could have just used a hearth, or the auto-unstuck feature, the stairs were like 5 yards from him.

That was the first time I quit playing alliance (5 hours after I started). I've NEVER met someone that dumb on the horde side - I mean this is like 2 year old dumb, not 10 year old dumb. Second time I tried was similar only instead of sheer stupidity it was all the whining and idiocy on public chat channels that got to me.

Maybe the average maturity level of horde on my server is just different then other servers, I don't know, but I'm SERIOUSLY biased towards horde because of my shitty experiences trying to play alliance. And, all my RL friends have had the same issues and none of them ever stayed alliance for more than a week.

Also, in our battlegroup, horde pretty much wins all BGs.

I'd argue that such things are really more server specific as far as factions go. I played horde for years, and just got sick of it when they acted like being horde gave them a God given right to be ass%^&*#. Yeah, horde doesn't have a lot of the immatureity that you see on alliance, but at the same time I'm much happier dealing with children acting like children than adults who throw hissy fits or walk around spouting "pwned".

At the same time, there are some wonderful people who play alliance who are really cool and that I'm glad I've got the opportunity to meet.

Not saying theres not, but good God wading through all the idiots to find the cool people would suck! Both times I tried alliance were on different servers than the server I play Horde on, so I have experiences of alliance from 3 different servers. And even though horde in our battlegroup wins BGs all the time now, you should have seen it before there were battlegroups and BGs were same server only. It was brutal. Alliance never got ANYTHING done. WSG was always 3 capped without alliance getting any, AB was always over with a 4 or 5 cap, even though AV went on for hours, horde always won.

You always have to wade through idiots at the lower levels though, and they're readily apparent if you're looking for them.

I started Horde and played for about two months that way. I leveled a couple of toons to the mid 20s-30s. What I experienced was that no one was helpful and everyone was a diq. I rolled a paladin as an alternative to quitting and it was night and day. People were helping me with quests, patiently helping me learn the game. I found an organized guild that taught me how to get to 60 and we ran UBRS everyday (and usually DM afterwards ^^). I have loads of RL friends who play Horde so I go back to try it every now and again but it's usually the same as when I started. I've tried about 5 different servers. My Horde frineds play sporaticallys (all married, working grown-up types) so I have just stuck with Alliance.

There are idiots on the Alliance side, sure, but those are the people I interact with. It's a moot point now since I play All by myself now.
