I love it for the cards and the one shoulder enchant, and i have room for one of every trade on my team..so why not? also I use the vellums and buff scrolls a lot. I could buy them, but I just make them 8)

If you don't try to rush leveling professions its really not bad at all. I am only 450 in mining/herbalism on my guys, and I have been 80 nearly a month now. My enchanter is like 434, my LW is 440, my inscriptor is 422, etc. You gather tons and tons and tons and tons and tons of mats just doing your daily thing (herbs, ores, DEable greens/blues, eternals, leather, etc) and whenever all my bags fill up with stuff I go on a power leveling spurt. Haven't had to buy a thing from the AH and eventually I'll have every profession at 450.
It definitely helps to have your miner on one screen and your herbalist on another, so you can quickly see what to grab. Also for LWs use the /cast [target=focustarget, dead][] Skinning macro so you never have to take your hands off your lead.
I have two inscribers in separate teams, and like it fine. I haven't used much of the stuff either, but minor glyph research is just about as entertaining as grinding. I.e., *something awesome may drop/be discovered this time, I can feeeeel it. It's that thrill of amassing more crap, of acquiring stuff. Anyway, it's not a costly profession for this little thrill, it's just the Herbalism which my tanks are up to the elbows in anyway.

.... donkey balls, yes.
but remember in every profession most of what you make is useless. you just gotta find your bread and butter.
