    Default Life after Octopus (Keyclone/HKN/IS)

    Hi All,

Posting this as my multiboxing has ground to an abysmal halt I am stuck in set up hell again!

Previously I was using Octopus and it worked fine for my MB needs but I am wanting to try something a little more sophisticated eg the FTL setup and figured now that Octopus is no longer supported it was the perfect time to switch. My dilemma is which software to use and have been dabbling with Keyclone (I have a license) and HKN and have applied for an IS trial (no IS/Lax hating please I was using WinEQ2 way before I started playing Wow let alone heard of these forums or the other software solutions).

    Firstly Keyclone:

I really dont know why but I just do not like the way it works - on paper it seems like a no brainer to use this as it is the most similar to Octopus but I just prefer the way Octopus works to the point where the differences just annoy me more than the additional features please me.

    HKN:

I havent done any scipting since creating a crafting powerlevelling program in Daoc (was with Autohotkey at the time) so this is taking longer to figure out - I cant even get my windows placed correctly >_< been following Olipcs guide but struggling a little so far may need a mentor too!

    IS:

Not really tried this yet but seems the most impressive but hardest to set up >_<

Has anyone else (except Sam) ended up playing with programs rather than playing? I just wish there was a way to get set up the way I want instantly and just get on with playing!!

If your trial hasn't been approved send me an email with your account name.

For what it's worth, I've spent a bunch of time over the last few weeks creating a configuration utility that will help set up pretty much everything you need as far as IS goes, and it'll import keyclone settings to boot. I should have it ready to go pretty soon, maybe by next weekend.

Keyclone is great, its the easiest out of the box solution.
    HKN I don't / have never used so I can't really comment.
IS + clickboxer / repeater / Windowsnapper is great. But it requires A LOT of DIY stuff. You can take stuff others have done and mod it to your needs but its still a pretty tough learning curve. The word is Lax is getting ready to test some stuff that makes setup MUCH easier. The only drawback I've seen so far with IS is the tough learning curve and setup.

Well I got my IS Trial sorted last night (very quickly I might add). And was able to set it up using Zanthor's guide with a bit of tweaking to personal taste. So far so good! Now I need to decide on a setup (probably a target based Focusless, Leaderless setup) and get it working!

I you can be bothered to spend the time to setup HKN, I very much recommend this. Not only is it free, it's also very configurable and the mouse-broadcasting works great. Yes, it does take some time to set it up, but it's well worth it and I'll be glad to help if you supply me with information on your setup (ie. number of computers, clients, screen resolution etc.).

Just curious but why move away from Octopus? I'm using that still -- HKN and Keyclone haven't really had feature updates in a while as far as I know (I also have a Keyclone license). I thought about switching from a /focus system to a FTL system, but then I really couldn't think of a good reason why -- with Octopus PIP hotkeys and Jamba focus support I have F1-F5 bound to swapping mains and it does so in under 10ms including auto switching the current window. The only two reasons I could think of moving to FTL are (1) if you need to use focus for CC, (2) if you need to use focus in PVP for multi-target/hidden target blasting. imo at this point there is absolutely no CC required in any heroic instances, can't speak for #2 that much since I don't really arena but not really sure its necessary.

IS is the most powerful and has more transparent FTL setup, but it does cost $36/year, whereas the others are free or 1-time fee.
