i can only understand this if you saturdate the bandwidth, leaving none for the neighbor. but the neighbor did pay for it... who is to say their intention wasn't to give free access to his neighbors at his own expense?

of coruse.. it just boils down to the fact that the ISP wants to charge you for another account, since they cannot charge neighbor for MB used (since that wouldn't fly)
Or the fact that theres many cases of people 'wardriving' and then downloading kiddy porn, or hacking.
THAT is what the law is trying to prevent. Furthermore its more like you plugging in an extension cord to you neighbors house without him knowing it >.<

True, but at least they aren't waving a flag in the air going 'Heyhey, my router id is this, and I don't have a password! Come on in, YAY!!!!'

I used to rationalize my childish behavior in college by finding nubs with open networks and printing out tons of "I R HAXXOR" on their printer by thinking... Hey... their little radio waves are invading MY rented room. They're trespassing in MY house!

Of course, that wouldn't hold up in court...

if you have a semi-static IP (most Cable ISP's I think use this) you can reset it by changing the mac address on your router and resetting both the router and cable modem.

Interesting. I made 40+ trials on the same IP. Gave errors at 5 or so until I changed email addresses. The IP one may be new, or is it cookie based?

update: I was getting that error when trying to create trial accounts, I changed the e-mail address, and the error still came up.

I changed my IP address using the method mentioned above (changed the mac Address to my PC's mac address instead of the default router one) and rebooted the modem and router. I even used the old email address that i had used for the other trials.

    The error went away.

So zin, its either a some what recent change, or somehow cookie based.

I agree. Try using a new browser and retest if you want, clearing cookies each time and using a different email address.

If that fails then they put in a somewhat recent IP filter.

I made trials recently (about 2 or 3 weeks ago...) and it's IP based now.

On my laptop, I made 3 trial accounts, then was locked.

So I just connected to my friend's network next door using the same laptop (without rebooting or resetting anything on my computer or browser except for the wireless connection) and was able to make 3 more then was locked again.

For all the trial accounts, they each had a different contact info and address and different email addresses from one another.

It's relatively recent, or at least, I'd never made enough trial accounts to notice it before. How long ago did you try the 40+ trial accounts?

For all the trial accounts, they each had a different contact info and address and different email addresses from one another.
For us, half were Suvega's name/email with our same address/phone, and half were my name/email with the same address/phone.

There are many tools out there that let you browse the internet via proxy. Just search google for anon IP, proxy IP, etc. Use one of them to make your trials. Or if you happen to have a cell modem of sorts, those work wonders as well.
