Default Professions for 5-box party? Matters?

Hey, anyone have any input on what professions to pick for my 5-box leveling party (pally, mage, shamanx2, priest). Does anyone actually use professions while leveling up, or is it too much trouble? I'd guess that gathering professions are too much trouble.

Perhaps jewelcrafting for neat-o trinkets, enchanting on one to d/e unused drops, any other input? Thanks in advance!

My lowbie pally is an engineer so that he can pull, so he also has mining to support it. I have an alt that is a skinner (just for the income) - the macro for that is pretty easy to setup. I also have an alt that is an herbalist, I must say it seems like more trouble than it is worth. I also have an enchanter - for the DE's.

Since you have 2 shammies the skinner may work for you - and then add in leatherworking. Your enchanter should also be a tailor for the cloth->DE->cheep enchanting to level (the LW can also supply you with DE fodder). With all your cloth going into 1 toon you'll be amazed how much cloth you'll be swimming in.

Blacksmithing is a money pit, alchemy is something you'll probably want to wait on (a free transmute is nice - but it is trivial to level it, so just level it once you get up there).

    Here's my setup

Paladin = Mining (for gold and support Eng) / Engineering (bombs and other fun stuff)
Mage 1 = Tailoring (for the gear) / Herb (for gold and support Alchemy)
Mage 2 = Tailoring (for the gear) / Skinning (for gold and support LW)
Mage 3 = Tailoring (for the gear) / Alchemy (just make a few pots here and there, and eventually transmutes)
Shaman = Enchanting (to DE BOP and Enchant right when I get new gear) / LW (blah on the LW) - probably should do JC to prospect

I think minimally, you should have all 3 gathering professions and Enchanting for DE. Everything else is just a gravy (or money sink depending on how you look at it).

    I either do:

    1. Bombs. Although slightly annoying if you are at max range and the mob is moving around. There's a timer when throwing the bomb and the mob might just get out of the radius. The bomb can also stun them.

    2. For solo mob, the Mages wand them, then the paladin hits them to gain agro.

    3. Body pull.. aka, Leeroy Jenkins.

    For Engineering goodies.
    1. Bombs (for pulling)
    2. Seaforium (for openning doors or locked chests)
    3. Ornate Spyglass (for viewing into the distance)
    4. Discombobulator Ray (reduce melee and spell damage by 40 for 12 sec)

There's more, but these are the lower level stuff. Eventually, the Field Repair Bot (for those really bad nights). And much later on Goblin Rocket Launcher. And way after that the Eng Helm.

Also, if you take mining AND herbalism on your main, you can only have ONE active at once.

My 70 shaman got Herb/Mine, back at the beginning of TBC, I would just make a macro that swap between the 2 with my epic flying mount, you cover alot of ground and you dont miss either mines or herbs at all, it's pretty easy. You just have to keep scrolling between the 2, so it's doable.

So far I only have Herbs/Mines (default, was already there on my 70) and Tailor/Enchanter on one of my 4 alts. 5 shamans, I dont even see the point into getting LW for any of them, the good stuff are always BoP so I wont build it up 4-5 times beside with badges you can surely buy similar if not much better items. And for PvPing, no crafted items are for pvp beside weapons. BTW why isn't there any good spell damage weapon craftable, it sucks.

My paladin has mining/herbalism. I have a /castsequence Find Minerals, Find Herbs bound to my clone follow/acceptquest etc etc button. I press follow button quite often so I find most nodes.

My priest has 275 enchanting and 300+ tailoring. The rest of the group I don't really care about. Don't need anything else. I'd take engineering and tailoring if it wasn't such a pain in the ass to level them up. I'd rather just play and have fun the little time I have.

I always take all the gathering professions immediately, because they're just too painful to go back and pick up later. and have an enchanter in the group to disenchant.

Everything else is down to personal preference, but it's easy to grind any of the crafting professions.
