Default What's the benefit of Engineering to 5-boxers?

I'm running a Pally + 4xShammy team with the intention of taking all professions

I've been looking at Engineering (which I dropped on my main for BS and JC),
and I just don't see the benefits of taking it up again.

Can anyone think of any particularly good reasons for taking Engineering as a 5-boxer?

And before anyone points out that there're 11 professions, Tailoring and Alchemy are relegated to my secondary team.

it seems to me that JC is the prof. to drop. the recipes are uber expensive and will take you forever to collect them all. I think it is better and cheaper to just buy the gems yourself.

Yah, the JC thing is strictly personal... I've always had a thing for gems and jewels (dwarf at heart perhaps).

Honestly, Leatherworking on my pally tank would've been a much better choice over JC.
(LW is the tanking profession for druids, real nice stam buff in there)

    But what about engineering?

I only learned engineering to create repair bots. I barely started levelling it post 375 in WOTLK, since it doesn't add much value imo.

    My team is:

1: Paladin (for PVE) with Blacksmith/Mining, Shaman (for PVP) with Enchanting/Tailoring
    2: Shaman with Skinning/Leatherworking
    3: Shaman with Herbalism/Alchemy
    4: Shaman with Mining/Jewelcrafting
    5: Shaman with Engineering/Inscription

I've found the professions very useful for the Paladin and lead Shaman (Enchanting of course is a must and Tailoring has had some useful things in it). Leatherworking has been handy in Wrath for gear. The rest are pretty much a waste of time - though I do 'em anyway cause I'm anal like that. I must admit though Engineering is still 1/75, as the Blacksmtih has first call on all mining mats followed by the JC'er.

I swear someone has posted that if all your toons use the mote extractor at the same time they all get motes. Which would be pretty OP. Think about finding at cloud somewhere and you get at least a primal (or whatever the new ones are called).

I think the old rocket launcher stunned a person for a little bit which might help you kill somone. There is a new haste enchant that engineers can do to gloves I think.

They don't seem to have good healing goggles right now, so my priest having engineering isn't doing much for me. In BC they patched in goggles for all possible specs, and the Sunwell patterns rivaled the best helmets in the game. I'm hoping that they add in some more again.

Engineers being able to extract motes (now crystallized stuff) is underrated - people don't realize how much extra cash you make. If you combine it with Mining you can double your collecting. I guess that's not really related to boxing, more solo use.

The saronite bomb is nice, its instant cast AOE damage (lower level bombs had a cast time). Only problem with it is targeting the ground, but its not that hard. Just think of having 5 of those bombs go off during the course of a fight.

I picked up engineering on my tankadin and it has some really nice things specially the goggles!, the repair bots have saved me a lot of time repairing during my trial and error phase. some of the target dummys for example are nice for pulling patrols. just drop one and go ahead and get in postion and they will come right to you. i know some of the items seem dumb at a glance but they are actually good. nothing like a grenade as an extra aoe stun
