dam i don't get why the heck multiple monitor stands are so expensive, i mean they are just a couple hunks of metal. you could get another monitor for that price! >_> lol

A good deal on a 24" monitor is around $200-$250...

$125 to mount $500 worth of hardware seems like a pretty solid investment to me. After all, if they tip over, you will be spending a lot more than the $125...

i want YOU to go to HomeDespot/Lowes and build one yourself. once you get a nice one out, post it here so we can buy it for cheap from you. thanks!

i recently installed a wallmount for my tv... and yea... the most important part of the mount is actually the part that connects the monitor to the wall/pole. it also has the capabilities to loosen and tighten tension if i want to pivot the monitor a certain way (left/right, up/down). that costed me only $60, but it only has a 30lb weight limit. if you used what i bought and add a pole, some mounting pieces, and something to bolt it to your desk, and you've got yourself an ok stand for one monitor. two of those and its $120 plus various parts... the same price (roughtly) as the one the OP mentioned.

edit: i would actually try to make this and place it behind my desk. then affix monitor mounts to them. http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-...-not-included/

The pricing has to do with volume mostly. If they could push more units the price would come down. The longer of a production run you do the lower the unit cost becomes.

hmm ya i guess you guys are right, i was originally just thinking of like 19"-22" monitors but if you have them holding up like 24" ones it is probably better to spend $100-200 rather then get some cheap thing and have all the monitors fall over and break or something. i was thinking of getting wall mounts instead of this kind; on Ebay it seems like you can get a decent 1 for $30-50. thats not too bad, i would have 3 monitors on my desk then 2-3 more on wall mounts. i wouldn't be able to move my entire seetup w/o having to remount the wall mounts but it is cheaper then buying 2 or 3 of the double monitor stands (~$100-$150 vs ~$300-$400+). personaly i wouldn't trust myself to build a stand for ~$300+ of hardware lol. i could also see how the connectors would be where most of the money is, if those parts arent good then the entire stand might as well be a heap of scrap metal =P lol.

I could build everything else cheap, but that part of the whole setup would be tricky....
Im so down with doing this, i have a buddy who is pretty good with hardware/wood/designing things for the company im at. He said it would be easy, and probably cost around 25 to 30, and probably no where near that depending on how good i want it to be, With stuff like Unistrut/powerstrut thats at any local lowes or home depo they have everything for clamping and mounting for almost anything.

I've also been pondering making a swing arm type system to put 2 of my mini keyboards on for my 2 other machines, i've drawn out a design i just gotta find the time to go to home depo and get the draft materials to attempt it.

I think what you're paying for with the actual mount that clamps onto the pole and bolts onto the monitor.

Fur's right on the money here.

What you don't realize about the stands is that I can swivel, tilt, and rotate any of my monitors on the "cheap little pole" using the monster of a clamp. It also has fittings for 2 different styles of monitor mounting screw configurations.

My 3 vertical monitor mounts were well worth the $200/ea I paid for them.
