Default anyone have any luck with the latest nvidia driver (180.48) on vista64?

when i try to install 180.48, my screen goes black (text mode?) requiring a soft reboot. it won't boot after that, forcing a safe mode recovery back to 177.41.

    system specs:
    --
cpu: Intel Core 2 quad Q9450
    mem: 8g
os: vista 64 home premium SP1
video: eVGA GTX 260 / eVGA GTX 260 superclocked
    --

i read the nvidia forums and there is a thread with people having the same issue.

i'm wondering if anyone here has been able to get it working.

Some trouble with it on the EVGA forums as well. For the nonce, here's a guy that thinks he has the solution:

    1. Uninstall NVidia display drivers.
    2. Boot to safe mode, and run driver cleaner.
    3. While is safe mode, use deivice manager and uninstal the display adapter.
    4. Boot normally. If Windows tries to install the driver, say cancel.
    5. Install your NVidia driver
    6. Boot

    See if that helps.
I don't have Vista64 installed currently, but I have the disk, a blank hard drive, and an 8800GTX sitting around. I'll try the drivers out later if I have time.

I had a hell of a time with my latest vid driver update. I'm not even going back to the nvidia website for a few months.

I just did a fresh vista 64 install Saturday night using the 180.48 drivers and everything is running smooth. I'm running an eVGA 8800 GTS. Wonder if maybe it's something with sli or the 260's.

I guess I got lucky. I put the Nvidia driver on first trying to solve a COD5 lockup problem, then installed Vista SP1 after that didn't solve it. But I didn't have any issues with just the driver in WoW at all. I never did solve my lockup in COD5, so fell back to more default video settings to solve my lockups.

I've had no problems with either the install or running games since i updated.

Loaded the drivers and all was good. Like algol said try the driver cleaner route first see how that goes.

also, try disabling SLi before you install and then reenable if you are successful, this has worked in the past for me

For some reason the screen goes fluorescent green when I log in. Sticking with current install until I have time to figure out WTF is wrong.
