Well my RAF expired this weekend and I almost managed to accomplish what I was trying to accomplish with it.

I started with a 70 warrior and a 25 hunter as my only toons and after 3 months of dual-boxing off and on while doing renovations at my condo etc I managed to finish with:

    2 x 59 shaman
    1 x 56 pally
    1x 56 mage
    1x 56 hunter
    1x 59 druid
    1x 37 rogue
    1x 37 priest
    1x 37 lock

    That included lvl grants etc.

I'm pretty happy, now I get to play some characters that I've never played after using the RAF and grants to get through the boring lvls.

Everyone here was a huge help with this as I only started dual boxing to get myself a bunch of alts.

    Thanks for that.

Not sure yet if I'll keep dual-boxing or not. . .that's still up in the air right now.

    Grats on that.

Personally, my RAF was a complete waste of money and time. I RAF'd up 4 x Hunters, 4 x Mages and 3 Locks and a Priest, to join a Hunter, Mage and Paladin I had previously long ago levelled.

Problem is Northrend. It's just one giant, tedious collection quest after another. My 5 Shammies should hit 80 tomorrow, and the Pally will then begin leveling from 70 to 80 solo (much more fun), but my RAF'd up Hunters, Mages, Warlocks and Priest's will, I doubt, ever see the light of day again.

I hope your experience though is different.

So can I confirm that I need to be doing the collection quests I run across? I'm still mucking around in Howling Fjord with my first 70+ group, so I'm not too far messed up if I need to start them back up.

And back on topic, yeah. I sympathize with the whole RAF thing. Mine recently ran out and it was a real push to get a couple groups up to 60 in time. I've shelved my Pally / 4xPriest group as well as the Shaman group. I don't know if I'll ever pick the Shaman back up, but if the next hero class ends up being a ranged DPSer / Healer, then I'll likely level the pally to whatever level needed and then sub in the next hero class for the priests.

Not wanting to hijack the thread, but to answer your question here goes.

It was my experience that somewhere around half the quests available were collection quests. Howling Fjord (and so far the Basin) have been exceptions to this, with Zul'Drak being the worst zone (virtually everything was a collection quest).

To give an example, I got a quest in Zul'Drak to collect 5 Drasilisk crystals. Ok, so I need 25 of them. Turns out though that you need to collect 5 rats in order to throw at the Crocs to make 'em well fed, in order to get the crystal, and since each is a player-specific drop rather than a group drop, that means 5 x 5 x 5, or 125 friggin' rats I had to collect, in order to get my 5 crystals. No wonder that while doing that, and collecting 50 mushrooms, I finished a nearly 2 hour session with an xp/hr rate of just 37k and a boredom factor way way higher than that.

I know that sounds like a lot of QQ, but I have really found the Northrend questing to be extremely anti-group, and if you go skipping collection quests, you'll be doing very few quests at all indeed.

Too bad you didn't have more time to play because you should have been able to get 4 or 5 groups to at least level 60. I'm glad I took advantage of RAF. I have 5 teams and as soon as I get my Shamans to 80 (two more levels) I'm going to get back on another group. Having a team of shamans at 80 should make it a lot easier to fund the other groups. Just switching back every so often and generating some gold and spread it around. I intend to get each of my groups to 80 and then move 2 teams over to new accounts and try some 10 boxing out. The way i see it, there is no way I could ever get bored with Wow. I have way too much to do.

    This is wrong wrong wrong.

Here are the zones I've been to so far and gotten the quest achievements for:

    Howling Fjord
    Borean Tundra
    Dragonblight
    Grizzly Hills
    Zul'drak

Zul'drak has by far the least amount of collection quests out of any of those zones - BY FAR. Fastest zone I've been in so far. The few collection quests there actually are in this zone go SUPER fast due to either having a 100% drop rate, or a small number of collections in a tight area. I've only skipped maybe 3 quests in zul'drak on my alts so far and in the other zones I skipped dozens.

Worst zone for collections is DEFINITELY grizzly hills. That zone has half the quests of borean tundra and took almost as long to complete because there were soooo many collections. Its a boring ass zone anyway but the collections make it twice as bad. Howling Fjord had a lot of collections too and wasn't a very fun zone. Borean Tundra and Dragonblight were my favorite "fun" zones so far, but for leveling speed Zul'drak has been the best.

I kinda disagree... as a 5x Shaman team that just finished Zul'Drak I will say that it was HORRIBLE compared to all other content so far. The problem is I needed to ding 76 before heading to Basin... so I ground it out. I found myself numerous times spending almost an hour to finish 1-2 paired collection quests. As for what I saw of Grizzly Hills, I agree with you. I walked around for about an hour talking to NPCs until I gathered there were only a handful of good group quests there - and pretty much skipped it.

Thats weird - I went from 77 to 78 in zul'drak faster than it took me to do 70-71 in howling fjord. In fact 77-78 was my fastest level yet, all in zul'drak. Hell the amphitheatre of anguish quests alone were worth something like 160k xp and I did them in about 4 minutes.

for the record, collection quests aren't really a big deal for a two boxer. but i agree that once you get up to four or five toons, they make your eyes want to bleed.

i loved northrend's look and feel, but having just made it to 80 with my four drooz i would say that the huge number of collections added to the huge number of vehicle quests made it pretty obvious that no mboxer feedback was saught for this expansion. being such a fringe group, i fully understand why that is the case, but it still sucks for us. how hard would it be to let vehicles follow? or let you toons initiate follow on a vehicle operated by a partymember? that small change would make us soooo happy, but bliz will almost definitely never bother.

I'm willing to bet that, eventually, vehicles will be able to follow. That was most likely an oversight when the game was released as in testing theres really no reason to even try to do that unless a multiboxer was in the QA department.
