I always leave SM at 35 and go to ZF until at least 45 then start questing in Hinterlands. You really want to do the quests. The XP is at least as good, and you get a little bit of gear so that your all your alts aren't naked when they get to Outland.
I don't really understand this - Experience in SM is strictly better per hour in SM up until at least 40, and probably 45 (almost definitely when you factor in moving your guys across the world).
You have no idea how much time in the last 3 years I've spent in SM Cath. I'm borderline insane from it.
