    Default Opening WoW over network

So i set my computer up for sharing on the drive, but it didnt automatically apply it to subfolders so i set it for everything down into my WoW directory so it is D:/proggy files/WoW/(subfolders) all shared, and then when i try to access it on the laptop it finds my computer but when i try to expand the list it just shows nothing.

    Any ideas?

You're trying to run WoW on your laptop, but the WoW folder is on a different computer?

Do not do this, if it even loads / runs its going to be amazingly lagtastic.

    Agreed.
Trying to load every file WoW needs (see: multiple gigs) over a home network is asking for pain.
I suppose that if masochism is your thing, it'll be fine.

I've actually done this without a noticable amount of problem... loads slow, zones slow...

Of course I have the whole house wired with gigabit... your average home network is going to be 10x slower. (Literally 100mb) if not worse (Wireless @ 54mb or 11mb).

rofl, what was the problem where running WoW over (even gigabit) was the answer?

here's a thought, slightly painfull and maybe over complicated, but could you symbolically link the wtf folders over the network?
This way with 5 computers, you could log your characters in on any system and always have the correct UI settings?
It's one thing the really frustrates me as I log any of my characters on my center screen when I am solo boxing but it always takes a bit to get them set up again if I make changes on their "home" computer.

So instead of running the entire WoW off the network, you are only running the addons and the WTF folders.
hmm, I might have to investigate this.

This would not only work, but is a pretty good idea. Give it a try.

well, I started digging into this, it appears as though I have hit a snag. Everything I am reading says that junctions can not be used beyong local drives and symlinks only function over networked rives for windows vista.
So, I have a problem, since I am running Windows XP system, if I want to (and I really really do) test and use this set up, I will need to find a new operating system. :/
