Min requirements for 4-5 boxing

I was just wondering if somone could give me the minumum requirements for 4-5 boxing with relatively low lag on 1 computer. Thank you for your help.

I've been curious about this myself, tempted to try it on my rig: E8400, 4Gb ram, 2 x 8800GT's. From the brief amount of reading I've done here it looks like the more instances of WoW you run, the more you're memory is severely taxed. Given that RAM is so cheap I'm tempted to go 8Gb

Obviously if it's a serious attempt then most would recommend dedicated hardware. Also there MAY be the possibility of OC'ing to see if you can squeeze more performance out of your rig, but that would mean upgrading your cooling system at the least.

Post the specs of your rig as a start anyway to see if its remotely possible!

I don't know the exact spec but i think i have 4gb ram and 2gb memory but im not sure.

Ok if you're not sure then you can download something like CPU-Z: http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php#directions which will tell you the specs of your CPU, RAM and Mobo among others.

Oh and RAM and "Memory" in this sense are the same thing, RAM = Random Access Memory. If you're not comfortable or familiar with PC specs then I'd probably suggest re-evaluating whether you want to 5 box as you'll need some in depth knowledge of what components will work best in your rig.

Processor:
you need a quad core processor to 5 box on any computer. the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 is a nice processor and probably the cheapest you are going to get but it will do the job. you can OC it if you want to get better performance but DO NOT do it if you don't know what you are doing it is verey dangerous and can completely ruin your processor/graphics car/ wat ever you are trying to OC.

RAM:
minimum you want 4 gigs of ram but it is soo chea nowadays that you should just go with 8 gigs, its much more efficent - but running 8 gigs will mean that you will have to have vista 64-bit

Graphics card:
probably an nvidia 9800GTX, i have heard alot of good things about this card from others on these forums that use it to 5box. graphics cards are something you definatly don't want to skimp on, if possible i would sudgest getting top of the line if you can afford it, either an nvidia GTX280 or an ATI HD 4870x2 - both are currently the best out but they are kind of pricy.


thats pritty much it, so all in all you basicly just need a quad core processor, 4-8 gigs of ram (8 highly recomended), and a nice graphics card. hope this helps some ^_^

Just a note, a 64 bit OS is necessary if you want to see more than 3ish gigs of ram. All else equal, RAM is probably the most important component to boxing multiple instances, moreso than processor or video card.

not true. a processor is probably the least important of the three, as long as it is a quad core anyway, and a graphics card and RAM are both equally important because with low amounts of RAM you could have the best graphics card in the world but your computer would suck for multi-boxing. same thing goes for a graphics card, you could have a crappy graphics card and the highest amount of RAM a computer can have (24 gigs i think?) but your computer wouldn't be able to processes the graphics well enough and you would lag like hell every where.

I think what you are saying is that RAM and video texture memory are the two equally important variables here.....

Video texture memory is a combination of your total video RAM and your shared video (as set and defined by your system, usually configurable in the BIOS). I have seen issues with video drivers affecting total available texture memory. Always be sure you have the latest drivers for your card.
