Default Tech Issue (Ripping out hair)

So, I upgraded one of my system today, in an attempt to create a machine that wouldn't need to be upgraded for at least another 2 years. I all the internals brand new. ASUS M2N-SLI motherboard, AMD 6400+ processor, 4 GB OCZ Platnium, 8800 GTS EVGA, Coolmaster cooling system, but I kept the same hard drive. Needless to say I got it to boot, was running beautifully with Crysis and Supreme Commander. Didn't have any issues at all with DX10 games and I thought I had it made. But then I tried multiboxing. I only had two windows open on the machine testing it out for graphics while my other three were on other computers. I'm going along having myself a merry time and then computer locks up, caught in an infinite loop of approximately 2.3 seconds(at least thats what I got from timing the sound loops that were stuck). I'd restart and it would be fine for a few minutes running two instances of WOW. Any ideas?

Run a RAM Diagnostic using the Microsoft RAM testing software. You'll need to put it onto a CD and run it from boot.

It sounds like you are having some RAM issues.

Did you completely reload your Operating System or did you take the HDD out of the old computer and just put it in the new one?

I just did the RIP and plug.

I thought I was having RAM issues as well. I sent back the mobo and ram and am going to go with XMS2 Corsair instead as the mobo is certified with it. I hate stuff not working out of the box.

I'm not sure if this is very helpful, but i don't think the error is the RAM. When RAM is faulty you tend to get a memory protection message (blue screen). And it tend to happen at random. Other games won't work fine, and then suddenly develop issues when running two instances of wow. Sure, it can be a load issue, but i think that Crysis would tax the ram more then two world of warcrafts running.

There might also be some issues with the RAM settings in the BIOS (you know the RAS, CAS and LAS thingies?). I would doubt the last one though.

I used to work in hardware support, and i did most RAM issues :-)

...You took the HDD out of the old computer and put it in the new computer. This is a cardinal sin.

    Reinstall your OS.

    Load the new Drivers.

    Enjoy.

    pssst, I reformatted

Its all good though, the motherboard was fried, and I needed different RAM cuz of issues I heard with OCZ. Out a few bucks, but not out.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but did you make sure the sound was disabled in all of your WoW instances (or at the very least, only turned on in one)? I had a lot of problems until I disabled sound inside WoW on each of my windows. (I run 4 WoW windows on my main PC)

Edit - re-read your post .. I suppose if you're just upgrading parts, then you already had sound disabled... I have another sound related problem, even with sound disabled .. I get a BSOD with "cmudaxp.sys" every time I try WoW after turning my PC on, but after a reboot it is fine, so I don't think much of it, since I can't fix it.

I have a ASUS Mother board in my Main machine, and my last 2 Main machines.
I’ve tried the Stock built in card, Creative MP3 Extreme and Gamer Extreme sound card.

I have no idea why but in World of Warcraft sound settings if I select voices all the way up this problem happens. First it starts with static like noises after a short period of play, and then loops. To correct this problem I have the voice settings at default, never happens. This happened to the last 3 computers I had. No idea what it is, but given the amount of computers it happened on I figured it being a problem with WOW rather then a hardware issue.

Give it a try maybe you have the same problem I’ve had since we have similar hardware.

Due to Blizzards position on Hong Kong, money > freedom. I stopped playing.

<smacks head> SOUND - really stupid question now: I'm 5 boxing on one pc and everything is reasonably smooth but the box sometimes gets the jitters if you know what I mean. Would disabling sound on the boxees free up some mem/cpu? I'm currently at about 80% cpu all the time
