If you want to run 3 or more monitors with 2 video cards you cannot use crossfire or sli.

SLI or crossfire mode will only support one output. that is why you will need to use triplehead2go, so you can get the resolution necessary to display three monitors.Originally Posted by 'pinotnoir',index.php?page=Thread&postID=156844#po st156844
I don't think it would be necessary to go with 2x nvidia 280's. 2- 4870's with 2gig ram will be a much better deal and work great in xfire mode. also check out the 4850x2 or 4870x2,
tom's hardware just did a nice review of the best video cards for december and they said the 280 is a little expensive for the money considering how good some of the cheaper cards are.
i'm still looking around and either way i won't be able to buy anything for at least 4 months and by then who knows, there could be some new super powerfull graphics card for the same price as these, or these could drop a bunch. right now i'm just looking at a rough estimation of what i am saving towards. currently i'm looking at between $4,000 and $5,000 for a completely new computer, and this is just a rough estimation. i'm also trying to decide between 2 of the 4870x2's Xfired and 3 way sli with the GTX280's. both seem to be about the same and have there own advantages and disadvanteges but i'm mostly looking for performance, cost isn't a verey big issue.

Why waste money on the tripleheadgo when you can just plug your monitors into your 2 video cards?Originally Posted by 'Tsunami',index.php?page=Thread&postID=156883#post 156883

crossfire supports 2x monitors, and i THINK the new nvidia drivers also now support 2 monitor sli.Originally Posted by 'Tsunami',index.php?page=Thread&postID=156883#post 156883
sli and xfire only support one 3d program running at one time. the new drivers only allow you to use one monitor for 2d and the other for 3d. they do not support 3d in both monitors.
there are curtain reason that you would want to run 3 monitors. one of them is a more realistic gaming environment, e.g. racing games look fantastic with the increased screen size. 2400x1800 up to 3600x1000. in order to be able to display 3600x1000 you would need to run 2 vid card in sli or xfire or turn the detail down, but that defeats the purpose.
3 video cards for 3 monitors is another solution
yer missing something here delete the crossfire and sli thing get 2 random graphics card slap them in yer comp attach 2-4 monitors and then just set it up so that sli/crossfire is disabled.
