greetings - and data point for 5 accounts on one computer

Hi all,

New to this community and thinking about starting up a multi-box config. Lots of good info here.

I've been reading a lot of posts thinking about how I want to start doing this. I have a decent computer atm, so I thought I'd try with the 5accounts/1machine approach and see how it worked. I was somewhat surprised at the results.

My comp:
E6600 (2.4G) Core2 Duo
2G RAM
8800gtx

I run 2560x1600 res when I'm single-boxing, but for the purposes of this test, I ran the main window at 1920x1080 main window and and other four at 800x600 (the lowest that I honestly would consider running these).

Once I started up all 5 clients, the FPS on my main window (one I'm mostly concerned about) dropped to around 45 or so in the UD starting area. While 45 is certainly in the realm of playable, I do plan to PVP, and for that, I'd like a little more. Plus, this was very low load compared to almost anywhere else in the game, or when spells are being cast etc.

The surprise was that I _wasn't_ running out of memory doing this. This was without any mod (which will take some), but even then I was still ~ 80% or so, so I don't think memory was an issue. I was surprised, I figured 2G wouldn't cut it for this. I can't say for sure that it will when it's all said and done, but it looks promising.

So basically, I've decided this isn't acceptable enough for me so I may be looking at a few machines with some hardware support. I just wanted to throw this up for anybody else that is considering this as a data point for its feasibility.

I'd consider it possible however I'd probably upgrade the RAM and CPU. 4 Gigs will sort you, and a Quad core is probably a far safer bet ;-)

hi Bob, welcome to multi-boxing

consider setting maxfps to 999 and maxfpsbk to 15 or 20 on each clone. while they are in the background, you won't notice the fps difference

this should shave enough cpu to push a few more fps into your currently active clone. the other factor could be your graphics memory.

Where are the maxfps options in WoW btw? (or, which file needs editing I assume?)

its a setting in your config.wtf file. (if you use keyclone, you'll find it in the command editor)

you can also try setting it via the console while in game:

/console maxfps 50

should work. i usually also squeeze my wows that in the background to use less cpu/gpu via:

/console maxfpsbk 15

they perform as expected, but leave more cpu/gpu bandwidth for the wow in focus.

type these in-game... note your fps... exit... and open the config.wtf file. you should see 2 new entries with those names.

By in the background do you mean minimised or just not "focused" ? Not played with these settings before now, will have a go when i get home

Sorted this last night and seems to have helped maintain a more stable (high) fps on the main install. Nice one
