Default Possible to broadcast only CERTAIN keys?

    Hey all,

I know this isn't probably possible with current programs, and even hardware, but hear me out.

I play DAoC, and to be simple I play an offensive caster and I have my cleric healer behind me (laptop). I use numerical keys (1-7) to use my offensive spells, but I would LIKE when I hit the number 2 on my keyboard for it to broadcast 2 to the laptop, but NO OTHER KEY, EVER. This would simultaneously cast an offensive spell on my wizard and then would then trigger a macro using a macro program on the laptop to have my cleric stun/etc. the target my wizard acquired. HOWEVER, flat out broadcasting of every key is not practical because he would not follow me properly (they use the same movement keys). Is there any way of doing this?

Yes, the latest modified version of multibox by Shockbeta has this capability.

Thanks for the reply and the info. However, I can't get multibox to work. I open the server and client on the main PC. I connect the client to the server. I then open the client on the secondary PC, and connect IT to the main pc's server. I test it out with all the keys enabled. I open wordpad on both machines and start typing, but it only types on the main machine (and yes, the 'Keyboard' option is checked).

Have you thought about remapping the movement keys? Either WSAD/UDLR or even remapping the keys from the keyboard to the OS? For example, you could have the up button ACTUALLY send say control Q instead of up - linux is easier to tweak this but it should be possible in windows too without too much difficulty. That way you can "press' the same physical key but the host OSes respond differently to said keypress. A sort of software remapping of hardware. Very useful for special keys or changing keys around (making a normal qwerty keyboard into a dvorak or international keyboard for example).

    X,

Yeah, I was messing around with a very nice "Keytweak" program that has a GUI and everything to do that.. HOwever, if I can get multibox to work (shock's version) then that won't be necessary at all, because if I am able to broadcast the 1 key I need and nothing else (toggling is impractical, I usually: 1. Leave it on accidentally and run my other guy off somewhere and 2. DAoC pvp requires quick reaction, so it slows me down to toggle, do my stuff, toggle)

Sounds like you should play around with Multibox further then. I really have no experience with it so I will have to leave that to others to help you with. It seems like a fairly robust program from what I have read. Perhaps synergy with keyboard broadcasting will work for you? I think (?) there is a way to turn off individual keys? Have not poked around with that either, I prefer the hardware route. Far more robust but far more expensive and less flexible - but damn if it doesn't work when I need it to.

If there IS a way to disable individual keys in Synergy, that'd be great, as I like the program. Multibox will do though since I prefer Multiplicity for the mouse control.

Take a look at the custom version of Synergy here that broadcasts. I have not personally tested it though but I don't see why it couldn't be coded to only send certain keys. I THINK that functionary was added but I don't recall specifics.
