Default WoW with 5 toons on 2 comps - looting issues! Please help.

    Cheers Multiboxers!

I jsut started to mutibox WoW after I gave up Lotro. My setup is 5 toons on 2 computers. Main is running on compter 1 and the other forur ttons on computer 2 in wondowed mode. My setup works fine so far but I'm having issues with the looting in WoW. I mean for usual items I'm using the "Free-For-All" option and loot everything with my main. But when it comes to collecting quests, where I have to loot something from the dead corpse, I'm struggling. I mean I don't want to switch every time betwenn my computers and loot 4 toons manually. So is there any way to loot also quest items with my main? Or are there any tools to do it ? Or how do you solve this issue? I searched for that in the forum but I didn't find any solution.

    Big thx

There's no real way around it - there are very few quests where the quest item is a common item, such as Jungle Remedy in STV. For that one I collect the amount and then trade it to one of my toons until they all have it.

For the other quest items (that you can't trade) you have to switch between your characters and loot them. My setup is my main on my laptop and the rest on my desktop. They are right next to each other, so the most that I have to do is swivel my chair. I tab between the windows on my desktop to switch charaters to loot quest items. I run the desktop WoWs in fullscreen, renamed with HotKeyNet, and some very basic macros on the alts. Tabbing between the toons, while not instant, doesn't take very much time. My desktop isn't the greatest and I was getting performance issues running in windowed mode. I use the MaxFPSBk macro to drop the framrate of the minimized WoWs and don't really have any issues not being able to see every one of the characters in their own window. I also don't PVP so your milage may vary.

I try to stay away from collection quests as much as possible - some are unavoidable, especially if you want to continue a quest chain. When I do have to do a spawned collection, once one of the alts is looting the spawn I tab to the next toon so that I am ready and have my cursor over the spawn site ready to go.

There is no great solution to this problem. Therefore:

    1. Avoid collection quests wherever possible, or only do them on your lead (this can be used while leveling under 60 to chain grant-a-levels to the rest of your team and can actually speed leveling significantly).

    2. Beyond that, you basically have a choice between controlling from account A and then switching to loot on B, C, etc., or switching control entirely between toons. With a 2 PC setup as you describe I suspect the first option is going to be easier. That's actually better for you than a single PC setup since the alt account window you are currently looting on will stay active with the mouse cursor in the approximately correct location. Setting your camera angle to look straight down can be helpful as well.

I've found that if I really need to do a collection quest (either from running out of kill quests or it leads to a chain) I just switch masters and loot all items needed, then go to the next toon. Running the focusless/targetless/leaderless setup helps here.

fwiw nowadays with Jamba, keyclone/octopus/etc its fairly trivial to setup a switch-master system, which I prefer to the FTL setup simply due to less complication in key setups and a lot easier to tweak with new spells, new teams, etc. There is no need for any cc in any instance in WOTLK so don't really need /focus (of course for PVP may be a seperate issue), its fairly trivial to setup the system so F1-F5 (or whatever) does a /focus <personname> and auto PiP switch windows with Keyclone/Octopus off the same key, and Jamba automatically can promote to party leader and auto follow based on /focus changing.

Thats what I do for collection quests, I've done every quest in 3 zones so far in northrend and I just collect X items on char1, then press F2 and do it on char2, then F3 and do it on char3, etc. takes 5 times as long obviously and really slows down leveling, but you get every quest done at least. Loot is on FFA and just pressing F1-F5 auto switches masters, resets follow, and switches to the right window -- all happens in under 10ms.

Mmmmh, but that still doesn't help with quest items which has to be looted? Or missed I something?

This is where using just 1 monster PC wins out over using 2 or more. With just 1 PC and PiP swapping, you can change your main screen to show any one of your toons' screens. Combined with Jamba (or equivalent) master swapping, and I can just hit one key combo and control any toon as easy as any other. Collection quests are then done on one toon, switch master, repeat until all done. Tedious but easy.

With 2 computers there is no easy solution - you need to go to the 2nd PC and directly control each toon to loot the quest items.
