The Violet Hold (Dalaran 5 man)

So has anyone tried the Violet Hold? its a 5 man instance in Dalaran, you get keyed at level 75 (quest, starts in the city somewhere).

Its basically Black Morass 2.0. 18 waves of various mobs, 3 bosses, 2 of which are random picks out of 6 or so.

I went in and 75 and got spanked. I did manage to down the first boss once - the "Vashj like" boss that blows up and summons a ton of little water elementals. The ethereal boss wiped the floor with me. What was funny was that when I killed the first boss, apparently I took too long because new portals started spawning WHILE i was fighting her (LOL!) and so after I killed her they pretty much destroyed the shield.

I thought it might be good for a xp/hour instance to level 75-80, even if I just kill only trash and maybe 1 boss and reset, but unfortunately it seems to hover around 120k xp/hour. Some of the mobs give good XP, some of the mobs give no XP Questing/easier instances are better from an xp/hour still though.

The bosses seem kind of multiboxer unfriendly, there is a lot of movement and target switching involved. For example the water boss despawns fairly often and a ton of little water elementals spawn all over the room. She re-emerges a few seconds later, if any of them get to her she gets buffed up and takes a lot less damage too. its trivial with 3 independent DPS to kill all the adds all over the room, unfortunately with multiboxing its a lot harder I usually only managed to kill 1/2 the adds, 1/2 would get to her. She still went down slowly, and around 20% or so stopped despawning. Unfortunately it took so long new portals started spawning (LOL!)

Its a very hectic pace, I have a mage so food/water was no big deal but even still I found myself only having 2-3 seconds max to drink between portals. Hopefully once I get a few levels in it'll be easier, I would not recommend going in at level 75 anyways. The mobs do hit very, very hard so I think a tankless team is going to have a difficult time -- my 17.5k hp prot pally got low a lot and usually was the first to die most of the time. Lots of magic damage too, so a warrior or DK tank may be great here.

I have done Violet hold a few times now on normal mode. it gets alot easier when you get use to it, most of the bosses are just tank and spank.

The water thingy can be alittle annoying, i normally stand close to him and AE the waterbubbles, but still almost half get through.

My team is 1 pally 1 priest 3x mages. all lvl 80

The pally is getting geared up now and the rest still got alot of lvl 70 purples.

I know this is a little off topic but how did you level to 80? Questing? Instance grinding? I've been doing pretty much nothing but questing, with a leveling guide and I'm still only 75 1/2. Feels like its taking me forever.

I gave this instance a go on heroic, but the tank with me was a DK which was still very undergeared. We wiped on the ethereal boss (was second for us, corehound as a first boss wasn't a problem.), I think we just kept going the wrong way tbh, and we got teleported a few times, plus too much dps on the tank and little time to stand still and heal+dps. I dunno, will need a good geared tank for it or not worth going.

Yeah i did quest all the way to lvl 80.. and it took ages, collect quest are so annoying the bad part is that they lead to other quests

I tried violet hold on heroic too, and i could see that my mages need alot more firepower to be able to down the mobs faster.

Still looking for a few heroic bosses that i can kill, so i can get started on farming some badges.

Hoping this is doable heroic style. From what I can see, the best pre-raid feral staff for my druid drops from cyanigosa (heroic) (http://static.mmo-champion.com/mmoc/...s_9061_483.jpg)

It has the awesome combination of looking cool AND having ridiculously good stats.
