best thing to do would be call blizzard's sales dept and see if it would be possible to change the owner of the account. seems kind of iffy, but hey it's in their EULA sooo.... give it a try.

Got ahold of billing, they said that it is impossible to remove the CD keys and put them on another account, they also said it is impossible to change an account name in any way. I do not understand there must be something we are missing in there tos.

I dunno... i just went and bought a battlechest and made a RAF link between the two new accounts and am starting leveling. Too bad i have to start over but at least its fast. It kinda screwed me up because i just transfered a 60 hunter to the account that i planned on dual boxing with a mage that i was going to grant to 60 with my rogue duo... I either have to wait 3 months to do that now or just level a mage, though i think after leveling a rogue duo and a hunter duo to 80 i might want to take a leveling break for a while

It sounds like it refers only to the software and not to the actual account.

Yeah, this clause has been in the EULA since the release of the game and is there due to the second-hand sales market...basically no game company can prevent you from selling or passing on a game to someone else as long as you don't keep a copy.

Others have raised this on the CSF forums over time and the response has always been the same...it relates to the CD's and the packaging, not to the account created with the license key that came with said packaging. You can sell the box and cd's to someone else but the account remains in your name and owned by Blizzard, they merely license back the use of the account to the person whose name it's in.

Default Blizzards scamming us in their TOS/EULA

    B. You may permanently transfer all of your rights and obligations under the License Agreement to another only by physically transferring the original media (e.g., the CD-ROM or DVD you purchased), all original packaging, and all Manuals or other documentation distributed with the Game; provided, however, that you permanently delete all copies and installations of the Game in your possession or control, and that the recipient agrees to the terms of this License Agreement. The transferor (i.e., you), and not Blizzard, agrees to be solely responsible for any taxes, fees, charges, duties, withholdings, assessments, and the like, together with any interest, penalties, and additions imposed in connection with such transfer.
The problem with this statement is in the follow-on rules about not sharing account info.

I played at release, got my wife and step-son involved, and then started new accounts so they could play as well.

My 3rd copy of the game I bought from Amazon.com, it was used by someone who played their 30 day free trial and wanted to get rid of the game because they didn't like it. They deleted their characters and quoted the above statement in stating it was legal to sell the game so Amazon wouldn't ban them. I bought off on it, and figured I was saving $10 from the retail price of the game going thru Amazon.com.

2 years later, right after the release of Burning Crusade expansion (which I had just bought and installed), I get an email stating my account is locked out because of differences in my billing information and the original account owners information. Blizzard would not indicate to me what the problem was even though I had the CD key from original box (because the seller sent them to me), they did indicate I would have to send in a copy of my ID and proof I was the original owner of the game.

This email came right after an email response from an account admin who was investigating a complaint I had made ingame which was directed at several members of my old guild who were making sexual remarks about my wife in the forums and nothing was done about it and about several GM's who also played on the realm I played on and were taking advantage of that fact in their raids. For example: if they downed a boss and there was a loot problem or the boss bugged out they would contact one of their coworkers who worked on that realm (since GM's can't play on the same realm they work on) and that GM would reimburse the guild with loot that should or would have dropped.

After I left the guild the GM's played in, the new guild my wife and I ran had problems with the 2nd boss in AQ20 which would always bug out and instead of having timed waves, all the waves would attack at once. We couldn't advance past the 2nd boss and we asked for help from the GM's who claimed they couldn't help us with the loot issues or get us past that boss which always bugged. We pointed to the forums which were rife with others claims of all the waves attacking at once and there were no fixes planned because of the BC expac coming out. We also pointed out and shared screenshots of this old guild with the GM's who played in it when their loot was given to them when the bosses bugged out and the GM's who showed up to help their coworkers out.

To get back to the moral of the story, if you are multiboxing with accounts which aren't in the same original name, be careful and not piss of the GM's. I attempted to get the account restored but they would not give in on the differences in the billing and account names, I asked why account admins had access to my financial information that I paid for the game with and was told they didnt but then couldnt get an answer as to why an account admin quoted problems with my billing info compared to my account info. I guess I can't pay for any of my friends accounts or theirs will get locked too. I know I have paid for some kids accounts in the past whose parents wouldn't let them play or they were out of a job etc. I guess that is a violation too and will result in your account being locked out.

Anyway, I asked the billing and sales department about getting the account back and they told me (when I referenced the quoted statement from the TOS/EULA above) that if you sell the game CD's and manual etc that you are just giving a backup of the game to whoever is buying it and if they want to play they either have to already have an account or they have to buy another retail copy of the game with an unused CD key.

This seems sort of fishy to me considering the statement "You may permanently transfer all of your rights and obligations under the License Agreement to another" which to me means as long as I haven't violated any other rule etc and their is no other transfer other than the game and a blank account with no characters or items on it, that I have the "right" to play the game, which is the whole purpose behind buying the game in the first place. What good are an extra set of backup CD's and extra manual?

This is like saying I can sell you my car but I can't give you the keys to run it because that would violate Blizzards right to sell a new car to everyone and no one can ever sell a used car and expect the person buying it to be able to use it legally.

One of the reasons why they have game cards. You can purchase time for other people with out directly putting your payment information into their account.

The portion about giving the copies of manuals and everything to transfer the software is pretty much boilerplate shrinkwrap EULA... the first time someone challenges this in any significant way Blizzard will simply change it.

yeah that is true, and the great thing now is you can buy them off blizzards website for 1 3 or 6 months and you get the key right away. That really helped me out when getting free time on one account, it wouldn't give it to me because my subscription hadn't come up to pay for my first month on my referred account, but i was about to have to pay another subscription on the account i probably won't play much more thana month longer, so i bought the time off blizzard and it gave me the free month

So another question to all of you. Do you think it would be a bad idea to boost my now 2 same accounts with a character from teh account with a different name? Or is that a bad idea too? I figure there is no way that they can prove it's not just a friend of mine coming from the same IP addy
