Major probs with utgarde and nexus

Hi guys... I got 5 elemental shammies L71 (almost 72) and cant get past the first mobs in both instances. My chars are northrend greenies geared.
For example the magus mobs in nexus i can take on, but the melee mobs only work if i use my earth elementals. If i go further then these mobs then im absolutely dead.
Right now im on my way to Heroic ramps, i hope to get some xp there to grind my last 2 bars till 72.
Anyone having the same probs or am i doing something really wrong.

Have you ever run an instance with 5 shamans before? Sounds like you're missing some basic tactics...

Rotating Thunderstorm to knock melee back giving you more time to shoot them
Dropping all of your totems (including stoneskin, etc) to absorb damage/boost DPS
burning down the first melee mob first, before he even reaches you (should be cake unless you have like 500 spell damage - what spell damage DO you have anyway?)
Not using chain lightning and instead dropping 1-2 stoneclaw totems and firing on 1 mob at a time so the rest of the mobs attack your stoneclaw totems
You ARE wearing a shield on all 5 shamans, right? Right?? This is a requirement to run instances with 5 shamans

Aside from that I don't know what the issue is...The only issue I had with 5 shamans in Utgarde Keep was the protodrakes which I still took down just fine, it was just a bit hairy.

Aye, I 4 manned Utgarde at 72 by using thunderstorm on rotation with only 4 elemental shamans, no fifth. I sometimes had to wait a bit before the next pull, but it was all the cc I needed. I hardly even got damaged at all. On bosses I just went elemental totems and ape nuts.

Yes, several normal ramps, slave pens... with outland greenies and it worked fine.

Here I might do wrong, i use thunderstorm on all 5 chars at the same time.

1 Stoneskintotem, 4 stoneclaw, totem of wrath, 5 healing totems or 4 heal 1 mana, Grounding totem and 4 searing totems.

The melee mobs in Nexus in the beginning, theres no way i cant burn them down before they reach me lol.I have around 500 spell damage.

All shammies wear a shield.

Yikes, only 500 spellpower. There is your problem.

Get around/above 1k from questrewards asap! This will -seriously- matter a LOT. And yes, rotate thunderstorms, it will give you a LOT more time.

The problem is that the northrend greenies dont make that mutch difference like pretbc-tbc. Quest gear sucks actually.

Eh, I only had 550 spell power on my shamans when I ran UK and had no problems with a DK tank. even with 5 shamans I got pretty far without too many issues. Certainly I had no issues at all with starting trash.

Another 5 boxer buddy of mine has less than 500 spell damage and was able to do almost everything except the first boss. Do you have any clicky trinkets that you can use every 2 mins? Staggering out your thunderstorms will make trash very simple once you get the hang of shooting once or twice then bouncing them back.

On your opening dps target try shooting a lighning bolt first then followed by an immediate chain lightning they should both hit at around the same time.

Another 5 shaman boxer Nitro posted that he speced one of his toons as restro and had him target the main guy and spam chain heal. This might help if you are dying alot. Just keep trying you will get down the pulls and eventually the whole instance.
