Silly but Serious problem

Hi DB community,

Im embarrassed to say so but Im facing a really stupid problem I need help with.

With WotLK coming out I cannot seem to be able to install XP on 2 different drives. I installed on the 1st drive with no probs, but now, whenever I put the DVD in the autoplay only gives the option of playing the game (or support, readme etc..)
Ive tried to explore the media and directly hit the installer link but the result is the same.

Im sure you all faced that issue and resolved it so Im sorry for being dumb, but any ideas?

XP = expansion pack? You can just copy your directory over to the second drive using Explorer. No need to install it again. Otherwise, don't use Autoplay and run the setup.exe (or whatever it is) from the DVD and select the other drive, typically you have that option when you install sometihng, but I don't have the expansion atm so I don't know what exactly it does.

There were some posts in the support forums about installing to different locations.

It requires you to use regedit though.. I did it for my 3 computers and it worked..

Extremely bad planning IMHO to not let you select a location to install.

I had the same problem & found a quick/simple solution. Before RegEdit or even a long copy paste operation you might consider this:

1. Upgrade all accounts via the wow web site & your CD keys.

2. Install the expansion as normal to your first/main wow directory.

3. Hit start on your second copy of wow. You will get a Pop Up, explaining that you don't have wrath installed (for that copy of course).

4. Run the installer.

For whatever reason,The installer will update the one you just tried to start with no additional input needed. At least that worked for me, for 3 wow directiries on one machine.

This works because when you launch wow it creates / updates all the registry keys with paths. So when the installer reads the path from the registry it was the path from the last WoW instance that was run.
