The thing with some classes having it, and others not...

People have something called damage meters.
If there were no meters, people would not care so much who was doing so much total damage, and focus on damage dealt to the boss.
Trash dps is pretty meaningless.

If boss dps looked like this:

Mage... 1,000,000
Warlock 1,000,000
Hunter..1,000,000
Shaman.1,000,000

Or whatever..

And trash dps looks like this:

Mage... 1,000,000
Warlock 1,000,000
Hunter..0,400,000
Shaman.0,400,000

People whine that the mage/warlock did high dps to boss and trash, while the 1 min aoe or no aoe classes did 600k less damage on the run.
And it is those people who don't often make it to high end raids. Or shouldn't. They should realise that each class has their role and deal with it. They are probably the same people who were stuck in old school raiding mode and wouldn't let hunters take their pets into kara and thus make them specc MM instead of BM (Yes, my first GM tried to do this to me, I gquit on the spot and went to SSC and eventually onto Sunwell. That first GM is still in Kara/gruuls).

There is only one damage metre that counts...Boss = Dead...or Alive?
