Sounds alot like a problem I had awhile ago. I don't know if opengl makes it easier on your video card but my problem was my powersupply. Replaced my power supply and the problem stopped.

The textures would go first on mine - the textures would turn into text mapped over the landscape etc. I've got a screenshot around here somewhere....
