Default USB to PS/2 Adapter - Under $5 (For Laptops)

Some of you may have laptops that need a PS/2 connection.

They have a few other models - none of which I have personally tested but they should all work the same.

I HIGHLY suggest Monoprice for cables - their PS/2 cables are superb. For Vetras, you need Male to Male PS/2 cables - both to cascade from one Vetra to another and also to go from the Vetra to your computer. Cheapest cables I have found anywhere.

It MIGHT be possible (I have not tested this) to purchase multiples of these units to enable multiple PS/2 connections. They would be cheaper than PS/2 splitters (that run $60+) and would help (but not by much as there is little to begin with) reduce PS/2 latency induced by cascading.

USB supports something like 127 devices so I don't see why you couldn't buy a hub and get a cheaper version of a Y-Mouse..... they would of course be two different ports - only useful for KVM purposes though.... and not broadcasting keystrokes.

USB has a total bandwidth shared across all 127 devices but for PS/2 data this is a non-issue.

    Just a thought.

All 3 of my macs only have USB, so I just ordered 3. I'll let you guys know how it works out.

It works fine. I bought 6 of these months ago so I can connect the KM switch to my individual client PCs without having to spend $80 on a Y-Mouse.

I have since tested these and they appear to be pretty rock solid. I had a few issues in the beginning with getting one or two detected.

I think one was defective - but for $5 you can afford to get a few. Out of the 10 I bought, 1 seemed to have issues. Which may have been software, may have been hardware.

Are you using these to link the KM/KVM and Multiplexer to each computer? Since I'm not finding any other PS/2 to PS/2 Y adapters other than the Y-key key/Y-Mouse.

Was looking at taking some of these adapters and having the USB jack replaced with a M PS/2 jack.

Sigh - sometimes, I'd wish you would read the posts before you responded. See 2 posts above your last one.

I highly suggest getting the 8 port one. If you can squeeze the extra dough, it's better to get an 8 port now than get another 4 port later. Don't make the same mistake I did

I have darned near read every post on this site actually.

I was not asking if they worked with KM/KVM switches, so much as trying to clarify they worked for broadcasting. Your response while helpful did not mention Multiplexer or broadcasting.

Originally Xzin said, "they would of course be two different ports - only useful for KVM purposes though.... and not broadcasting keystrokes." And then I quoted him saying it did work.

I guess I could have made the point clearer had I also quoted the original part indicating what I wanted in the way of clarification.

Dude. That's because you attach your multicaster directly into your desktop PS2 port. DOH! So whether you're going to connect a KEYBOARD or a KM SWITCH to these puppies, THEY DO WORK. If you read nearly every post in this forums, you would have understood that.
