    Default Plain Ol' Dual-Boxing

    Ahoy-hoy,

I've been reading through the forums and I've a question. I have dual-boxing on my old PPC Mac G5 for a few weeks now, leveling up 2 druid alts (Feral Tank/Boomkin). I'm thinking of starting another set and I was wondering, if you aren't planning on doing 5 mans, do you need a dedicated tank? Am I gimping myself by limiting one of my two toons' DPS? There have been some situations where the tank spec has been a huge advantage (I pulled what?) and I've been able to bring down huge groups of mobs, but I can't quite figure out what it would be like with more focus on DPS (Mage/Shammy maybe?)

Uh, well are you planning on combining the 4 accounts in one group? If the answer is yes, then you could just use that feral druid to tank. boomkin, with mage & shammy on heals would seem nice + a added 5th person if you ever decide to run 5-mans.

I think he only has 2 accounts. Hence the title

I would suggest picking 2 classes that compliment one another. Look at their abilities and find ones that would allow the other class to be more effective. I've heard that a shadow priest and warlock go well together.

Feral - cat - DPS can be pretty good while still having very good survivability in bear. It really comes down to what you enjoy playing. If you are just dual boxing, you are not going to be killing Heroics for fun, you might 2v2 arena some I guess, but not with a tank druid. So play want you want, make a number of groups, mix and match till you find something you like. I have a friend that just started playing, he has 4 toons (one account) in the mid 20s and nothing higher but he is having a blast playing and learning about each one.

If you like Feral/boomkin play it. Maybe try cat DPS and go to bear if you get in trouble, but have fun.

I dual box atm and so far have leveled a pair of Shaman and a pair of Druid to 60 with RAF. From my experience there is no reason to have a tank type for dual boxing. Go full on DPS for both toons and burn down whatever you are killing. You can mix and match for class symmetry but really for 2 toons it isnt necessary. You will burn through things so quickly that any bonuses will be rarely seen or utilized. Now if you were instance leveling with a full group then yeah absolutely go for group balance and plan your team based on symmetry.

On a side note I have found it MUCH easier to box caster types than melee types. Melee can be done but it requires better positioning of the mobs so that both toons can be in range to hit it.

In the end run what ya like. If you have fun with it, isnt that all that matters?

    Goodluck!

If you're not planning to take them into 5 man's then there's not a huge need for a dedicated tank class on the other hand it can't hurt having one either. Most of the non-instanced group quests can be managed with an off spec tank class with a marginal tanking set.

2 x Hunters, or a hunter + healing capable class would provide a lot of versatility and allow you to work on some of the instanced content.

One thing to think about is that in the future if you decide you want to try instanced content with your duo it is easier to find 3 dps to join your tank / healer duo than a tank / healer / dps group that's willing to give a duo-boxer a shot.
