I haven't tested it lately, but "it used to be" if you targeted yourself, you would get the first heal, and then it would bounce to two others... I used to do this in AV quite a bit before I became a dual-boxer...

If you're going to have each cast chain while targeting next - why not just self-target? Everyone still gets a "zeroth jump" heal, and the jumps go by health deficit anyway (I think). There doesn't seem to be a point to the method you describe as I understand it. And you can't cast when you're dead, so no problem there.

    Simple solution I used.

Each shaman targets the next one in the group - if that one is dead the shaman targets himself. Ie:

    /cast [target=nexttoon,nodead][target=player] Chain Heal

    Works perfectly.
Thank you this is pretty much what I was looking for. I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier....LOL

As for the other posters I have all my shammies have a target lesser healing wave spam on each of my F1-F5 keys.

I run into this issue also, but I find that having the group self targeting lesser healing wave is usually the best way to go. I also have macros for each shaman to cast any heal on one target at the time if needed, but this is usually for if a target is getting focused.

Anyways, I believe the self casting lesser healing wave is the most efficient healing and mana wise in most cases.

    Maybe some one knows different?

BTW, this is speaking from a PvP standpoint, not sure what situation you are in. Plus, I like the above post too for when you need that Chain Heal. =)
I don't like taking the chance that the shaman that needs heals dies because he couldn't get the heal off on himself. I have 6 healing spells. F1 - F5 all cast a lesser heal on a named shaman. So you have 5 lesser heals all hitting 1 player (if all hit its around 10k healing noncrit in 1.5 secs). This means that no matter what some of those heals are going to land on that shaman. If that shaman needs healing it usually means he is targeted and under attack and probably can't heal himself. The last healing spell is a chain heal on self. The chain heals will usually top off everyone in the group if there was aoe damage.

Hmm, this just happened to my post also. The post I quoted ended up being 3 posts behind me... Really really strange.

I have a macro set up where it lists all 4 targets, but in a different order for each one. So each shaman has different first target and you get the star effect. It's not affected if any of them are dead, it just goes to the next target.

Default How do you shamans handle your chain heal with the Leaderless setup?

I pretty much have mine just targetting the next shammy in my 5 man group however, my macro's get a little messed if one of them dies.

Any particular way I might be able to get around this?

The only time my three shaman cast chain heal at the same time is in my "Oh Shi." button. In that case shaman two and three (the elementalists) chain heal to party2 (the Resto) and the resto chain heals to himself. The button also causes the Pally to LoH himself. Loss of a dps hurts, loss of my primary healer or the tank is usually a wipe on a boss and that's pretty much the only time I ever hit this key.

I've grouped and re-grouped and the "partyX" order never seems to change (I use pitbull, with options show player in group and sort alphabetically) so all toons see the same group order. My control system is completely leaderless so the party order and actual group leader is unimportant in every way other than setting loot type and deciding who-heals-who (I also use party1 as a backup target in the resto shamans healing wave macro).
