If you were to link your current account (rogue) with a new RAF account (shaman), you'd receive 300% exp's instead of the normal 100% when the two accounts were grouped together and within 5 levels of one and other.

With the eventual goal of rogue/shaman, you could either create a new alt to group with the shaman... both start at level 1 and get 300% all the way up.
I'd probably go with either Druid, Paladin, Priest or Shaman on the rogue's account with one of the two (rogue account vs shaman account) as a dps the other as a healer.
The advantage is 3x exp's all the way up to 39, and then you end up with a toon capable of healing on each account.

If you use your rogue to boost your shaman, until the shaman reaches 34th level, it will receive normal experience not the 300%.
You'll get maybe a quarter the normal experience for kills because you're grouped with someone so much higher, but the kills will be at least 4x faster and initially many times more then this.
Quest exp's will be the normal amount, but quests will be completed a lot faster.

Either route, your shaman will reach 39th a lot earlier then a normal shaman.

If you're going software boxing, you'll need either Keyclone or Octopus. I went with Keyclone, love the program and highly recommend it. But Octopus is another highly used option and worth looking at.
Keyclone has a setting called Maximizer, where you configure how much of your given resolution goes to each instance of wow.
By this I mean you divide the real-estate of your screen between the clients you are running. You can set a PiP hotkey which will bring the selected screen to the front.
You could easily set it up something like this:

    1111111122
    1111111122
    11111111
    11111111

If you were to go like this, then the PiP hotkeys aren't as much of an advantage as the example above:

    1111 2222
    1111 2222
    1111 2222

You can run the game fine from a single install of Warcraft. Putting the game on two different hard drives is a performance boost.
A SymLink between the two installs is even more efficient, ie one full install and a second install which mostly uses the data from the first install and is only really different for addons and settings.

Running from one directory lets you have one set of macro's and one set of configuration options.
SymLink or two physical directories lets you have different addon settings and for example bare minimum video settings on one and much higher settings on another.

Rogue/Shaman would work quite well, provided the Shaman is some form of Elemental/Restoration.
The reason being follow usually breaks in combat, so if you're using two melee one runs in and fights, and then the other moves afterwards and joins in.
With a caster type, the melee can move in and you press your Sinister Strike key on the rogue, which also happens to be Lightning Bolt on the shammy and both DPS immediately.

I'm not saying melee/melee won't work; you could have the rogue stealth with an Enhancement Shaman partner who will toss a nuke to pull.
Position the rogue facing the shammy with enough space for the mob to stand between the two. Drop all the melee friendly totems you have..
Go nuts with rogue backstab, as the shammy does whatever it can to hold threat.
Heal up afterwards and then press your follow key... on slave toon.... /follow LEAD TOON Name.

It's just one-melee and the rest as ranged is generally easier, particularly more so as you run more instances of WoW.

Default Would like some input from the experienced ppl out there

    Hi all,

I'm rather new to the multi-box concept and have not yet decided to take the plunge. I thought I would try and ask a few questions first to help me decide. First off, I play wow on a laptop (Acer Ferrari 3400) and yes it is fairly old, but I am able to run two clients with it. In the past I would just alt tab, to put on follow etc to help get some quest done that I was unable to solo. So at most I am considering dual-boxing, any more than that, and I think my laptop would revolt. I have recently switched from alliance to horde, so I don’t have a lvl 70 acct to boost with.

Currently, I have a lvl 39 rogue which I am having a lot of fun with. I would like to duo-box this toon with a shammie via the RAF program. I imagine for that to work, I would have to lvl the shammie to lvl 39 for the triple exp bonus to kick in on both accounts. Basically, I imagine using my rogue to run my shammie through all the lower lvl quests until I reach that point and can take advantage of the raf questing.

Now for the questions, and please bear with me, I’m a computer noob. From what I have read so far I would require Keyclone and the mod MultiboxerV2 (at least it was suggested in a few threads). From what I gather, Keyclone is required to transfer the inputs from one client to the other. What I’m confused about is does keyclone also manage the video aspect or is that a different program all together? My screen on my laptop is 1400 x 1050. Would I have two wow clients up in windowed mode or is it possible to merge the windows so I can see both clients at once. My second question concerns the wow folders. In the past, I have logged into two clients from the same shortcut, yet I have read here that people will often have multiple wow installs to run more than one client. What is the benefit of doing that and is it required for multi-boxing?

Any advice for my situation would be welcome. In particular, does anyone have experience multi-boxing with an Acer Ferrari 3400 laptop? Is a rogue shammie duo possible, or is there a better class combination that I should consider? (I don’t have the hardware, nor the means to support a 5 boxer, so I’m specifically focusing on two). Any advice on what layout to see two screens at once with a 1400 x 1050 screen, or alternatively is there a way to set it up so that my main wow screen is 1400 x 1050 as it is now and my alt screen could appear like a picture in picture window?

Thanks in advance for any advice, I’ll keep reading in the mean time.

    Hello and welcome to multi-boxing.

I am fairly new here as well, bit since no one else has replied to you I thought I would add my opinions.

Regarding the RAf with your current 39 rogue. If it were me I would just start 2 fresh toons, linked with RAf. If you just go with a new toon plus your 39 rogue, you are basically wasting the raf for 39 or so levels. Believe me, RAF goes so fast that your new toons will be 39 in no time and them you have the option of swapping out one toon for the rogue if ya want. As far as classes go, I dunno, my first 2 dual boxed chars were a priest and a lock. Having two caster types, but one with a semi tank makes multi-boxing more simple than 1 melee type and 1 caster or heaven forbid, 2 melee types. Others here may have better advice here for you.

I just use keyclone and just recently started using jamba, never used the multiboxer addon. Keyclone can be very simple to set up, just remember to set up which keys you dont want it to pass to your second client. I added the movement keys and "enter" and "/" in my do not pass list.

Can you live with your main window being a bit smaller than normal? I set my 2 box up like this. The slave is in windowed mode, set about half of the screen in the bottom left corner. My main is set to over lap most of the slave, with just enough of the slave window showing on the left that you can see what the slave is doing. Make sure you set "focus follows mouse" in key clone then all you have to do is mouseover your slave and that window pops up in the forefront, easy switching for looting etc. If you want to try a more PIP approach, Keyclone has some layouts available at http://solidice.com/keyclone/layouts/index.html

Set up a macro that makes your master the focus, then on your slave make macros for what you want them to do. I add the following to all my slave (and master's) macros:

    Quoted from Gollie
"I made a rewrite on that command, to make it less messy:
/cast [target=focustarget, harm, nodead] [] Lightning Bolt <--That will try to cast Lightning Bolt on your focus' target. I added the "[]" bracket incase you want to singlebox your alt, this will enable you to cast on your current target, instead of searching for a focus(you don't have any focus if you play alone).

/cast [target=focustargettarget, help, nodead] [] Healing Wave <--This will try to cast a heal on your focus' target's target. So, if your focus is the one holding aggro, and he loses it, you won't have to change target manually to heal the right character, since the macro will auto-target what character the mob is targeting. Pretty messy, but think it through 2-3 times and you'll get my point. You should know what "[]" is doing."

Just replace "Lightning Bolt" and "healing wave" with whatever spells your wanting to cast.

I hope I have helped you a little bit

*forgot to add- Make a macro that makes your slave follow the master. I use:
    /target focus
    /follow
and I bind that to the "f" key. Just hit that after each fight and your good to go.

    Welcome bkray1!

If you go Elemental with your shaman and put him on follow on your rogue you should do pretty good. The rogue would 'tank' and be the 'master' of the two while the shaman will support by either dpsing/healing when needed. I would suggest making another character with your shaman that you can take the advantage of the RAF from the start. This way when you reach lvl 39 you switch out for your rogue and when you hit 60 on them you can give free levels from your shaman to your new character giving you another 60.

Keyclone does the video pic in pic thing aswell as sending keypresses to all the wow clients. Its a one stop shop. You can have your main wow screen and set a smaller screen ontop (theres a setting to keep one window ontop of another) or you can make your main one slighlty smaller to give you room for a 2nd.

I don't think you'd benifit much from splitting your wow into 2 folders (maybe if you were running 3+ clients). You shouldn't have any issues running both from 1 wow folder.

I would consider using Jamba instead of MultiboxerV2, its far superior.
    Goodluck!

Thx for the suggestions. I'll get started on it right away and see how it works.
