Would it be possible to split and lock offtopic POSTS instead of threads that get horribly derailed? I for one use the guides I write in the forums as a resource to come back to and reference when I'm setting up friends or rebuilding my config, answering questions, etc...

Just because a thread derails (as we have seen happen over and over lately at the mention of IS) doesn't mean that there is no valuable content or further discussion about the topic. If the community leaders here feel IS shouldn't be talked about at all, then simply state that its a no-fly topic and I'll move my documentation of my efforts to adapt elsewhere. (On the same note, if it's a welcomed topic, can we get an [Innerspace] prefix in the drop downs such that we can stop using [other]?)

I was about to post something about this IS discussion also. I think reading the thread that has recently been locked brings up more questions than answers. It looks like it kind of got into a pissing contest but not letting a discussions(or yelling match) on if this software could or could not get your accounts banned.

I think it comes down to this. Have blues in the past said keyclone(by name) is ok to us? If this is the case then it seems pretty simple. IS would be completely safe once a blue refers to it by name.

[/quote]To the best of my knowledge KeyClone is the ONLY software that's been given a by name thumbs up, however (and I'm sure the queen of quotes could do this better than I) if you read through the [url='http://www.dual-boxing.com/wiki/index.php/GM_Conversations']GM Posts[/url] you will see the consistent lack of references to other products besides KeyClone in GM's comments. At the same time you will note that KeyClone didn't get the golden approval and eternal blessing, every post I've ever seen has included the words "at this time" or some similar disclaimer. However unlikely it may be, blizzard could simply banlist all software methods of boxing and we wouldn't have squat to say about it.

Keep on subject, discussions which deviate outside the original subject can result in the thread being locked, deleted or moved.

Those are easy enough to enforce. But that means constantly locking threads after an initial warning.

So - when you start seeing "thread closed - offtopic discussion" posts by me, don't cry about it, because you just asked for it to be enforced more.

Does burningboard support post kicking or splitting such that the topic doesn't necessarily need locked but the offtopic posts can be split/locked... And you won't catch me crying about it, the offtopic bs has been getting recockulous.

I know you can move posts from thread to thread, but its a pretty time consuming task. So "splitting" threads would take more time than most of us have.... and after doing one or two big ones, pretty much anyone would say "this isn't worth the effort".

Volunteer moderators just don't get paid enough to deal with that, I can understand that .

That being said, I've had a rough time with work this week so... if I can ask... which locked thread are you complaining about? The only one I saw was a VERYYY old post that was not only 1) posted in General forums incorrectly and then moved to Software, but 2) once moved to Software was locked, and 3) was reopened with the caveat "play nice". It started off on the wrong foot in the GENERAL forums, was midway closed and reopened on the wrong foot, and finally locked after given fair warning.

The new thread has no such issues and seems much more calm and coherent. So... unless I'm mistaken and missed a locked thread, I don't really see a problem...?

In the new thread, I even moved an more general subject OUT of the clickboxer thread since it applied to more than just one piece of software.



As for adding prefixes... only teh webmastar can do that. I believe Ellay or Majestic_Clown would be the correct contact. I have the ABILITY to make changes to the forums, but that doesn't mean I have the AUTHORITY to do it without approval from teh site wizards.

The locked thread was the one I started about Windowsnapper that went from my awe and amazement with what it could do to badmouthing lax and the evil that is Innerspace. It was unlocked briefly after I made this thread asking about it.

Yea, I've been educated by the other mods since I wasn't around when it happened. In any case it looks like the issue has been resolved at this point, correct?

If someone is derailing your thread and/or harassing others, your best bet is to use the "report" feature in the thread so we can just delete those individual posts. Usually this can slow the "snowball effect" before it gets so big that the task of cleaning up the thread is too daunting and it just gets locked.

If it's OK with you, can I toss this thread into the "off topic" forums since it doesn't really have anything to do with software? It's more of a PR issue.
